Sarah Cason Circle
The Sarah Cason circle of the
First Baptist, church met on Tues
day evening at the home of Mrs.
H. W. Staton.
Mrs. R. E. Martin, chairman,
had charge of the program on
“Sowing Beside'All Waters.” As
sisting were Mrs. Burl Allen,
Mrs. Sarnie Pmsoh, Mrs. Fred
Burnett, Jr., and Miss Jo Pruitt.
A social hour was enjoyed and
a sweet course served during the
evening.
ARP Groups Have
Mission Program '
The afternoon circle of the
Woman’s Missionary Society of
the Associate Reformed Presbyte
rian church met on Monday af
ternoon with Miss Nannie Young
Tribble as hostess.
Miss Tribble, assisted by sev
eral members, presented a Home
Mission program.
Later, punch, sandwiches, and
cookies were served
The evening group, Mrs. James
P. Sloan, chairman, met at the
church. Mrs. Bynum Betts, as
sisted by Mrs. George Thompson
Copeland, Mrs. R. L. Plaxico and
Mrs. Nolan Carter, presented the
program on the chosen topic.
At the conclusion of the pro
gram refreshments were served
by the hostess, Mrs. Carter.
During the meetings both
groups packed boxes for the
mountain mission at Sandy
Plains. >
Joint Hostesses
For Bridge Party
Tuesday afternoon at the Adair
home Mrs. R. C. Adair and*Mrs.
John W. Little entertained guests
for five tables of bridge.
A variety of roses were beau
tifully arranged with other flow
ers of the season to decorate the
card rooms.
At the conclusion of the pro
gressions score awards were pre
sented Mrs. George R. Blalock,
Mrs. C. W. Copeland, and Mrs.
F. P. Thompson, of Laurens. Lat
er the hostesses, assisted by Mrs.
Addison Neighbors, served salad
and sweet courses.

Lt. George Henry Oomelson, jun
ior, of Clintin, South Carolina.
Dr. Broad us E. Jones officiated.
Nuptial music was presented by
Dr. Harry E. Cooper, organist.
'The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marchand
Shaw, of Raleigh. The bridegroom
is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs.
George Henry Comeisan and the
grandson of Mrs. Bailey Cornelson
of Clinton, South Carolina.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her father. She wore a
classic full length gown of white
peau de sois with a fitted bodice,
bracelet length sleeves, and a

a chapel train. Her Brussels Veil
of rose point lace was attached to
a shell cap of lace embroidered
with pearls. She carried a cascade
bouquet of stephanotw, f 1 e u r
d’amour, and bride's roses with a
center cluster of small white orch
ids.
The matron of honor, Mrs. John
Hall Toledano, of Fayetteville,
wore a waltz length gown of honey
dew faille fashioned with a sheath
skirt which billowed into full cir
cular folds in the back. She carried
a semi-cascade bouquet of talis
man and tawny gold roses and
bronze chrysanthemums tied with
brown satin ribbon.
The other attendants were Miss
Elizabeth Edwards Goodwin, of
Zebulon, North Carolina, cousin of
the bride, Miss Rose Cornelson
Montgomery, of Spartanburg,
South Carolina, cousin of the
groom, Miss Nancy Dail Claridge,
of Raleigh, North Carolina, Miss
Penalope Crocker Dana, at Pine-
hurst, North Carolina, Miss Hazel

lina, and Stanley Witherell Con
verse, junior, of Spartanburg,
South Carolina.
For her daughter’s wedding Mrs.
Shaw wore a full length ♦ light
green satin gown trimmed with
seed pearls and crystal beads. Her
flowers were white orchids. Imme
diately following the ceremony the
bride’s parents entertained at a
reception in the Elizabeth room in
the Sir .Walter hotel.
For her wedding trip Mrs. Cor
nelson wore a cinnamon wool cos
tume suit with a mink collar and
brown, hat and brown suede ac
cessories
The bride was graduated from
Hollins college and attended the
Sorbonne in Pans. "She made her
debut at the Terpsiohorean ball in
Raleigh in 1953. The bridegroom
was graduated from McCallie
school and North Caroiina State
college where he was a member
of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He
also attended the Harvard Busi
ness school.
Alter a honeymoon in Jamacia,
the couple will make their home in
Dayton, Ohio, while Lt. Camel-
son is stationed at Wnght-Pat-
terson Air Force Base

Tuesday morning Mrs. G. A.
Black was hostess to twenty mem
bers of the Ella Riddell circle of
Thomwell Memorial church.
Mrs. Mary Adams, chairman,
presided. The opening prayer and
devotional were given by Miss Ju
lia Kennedy. Mrs. Eloise Hines
discussed an article, “To the Four
Corners,” by Billy Graham. The
Bible study was given by Mrs.
Adams.
Later Mrs. Bertie Parks and Mrs.
F. M. Stutts assisted the hostess in
serving cake, coffee and nuts

For Dessert Bridge
Thursday afternoon Mrs. James
L. Walker was hostess to mem
bers of her club for a dessert
bridge, assembling players for
■three tables.
When the guests arrived a sweet
course was served with coffee and
later a number of progressions en
joyed. Prizes went to Mrs. Cald
well-Henderson and Mrs Reece H.
Young.
Arranged in decoration were
roses in a silver bowl on the din
ing room table and elsewhere
dwarf marigolds and roses.

A reception for alumna here to
attend homecoming at Presbyte
rian college was given by the Col
lege Dames on Saturday afternoon
in the Library building.
Dahlias and chrysanthemums in
fall shades were beautifully ar
ranged in the building. Floral
adornnK-nt for the lace covered re
freshment table was in pink and
white and silver holders held white
tapers.
In the receiving line were Dr.
Marshall W. Brown. Lt. Col. and
Mrs. F. V Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Ed

Methodist WSCS
Be Held Monday
The October meeting of the
Woman’s Society of Christian Ser
vice of Broad Street Methodist
churVh was held Monday after
noon at the church. Mrs. Howard
Smith, president, presided over
the meeting. After a business
session, Mrs Sam McCrary led-
the program, ’“Volcanoes Over
Southeast Asia.”
The following had parts on the
program: Mrs. Murphy Timmer
man, Mrs J. B Dailey and Mrs
Allen Simmons.
Mrs. Lewis Pitts gave some in
teresting highlights on the growth
of missions in the Methodist
church. The meeting was closed
with the group singing “He Lead-
eth Me.” '
The attendance pin was won by
the Ellis Hatton circle, Mrs. J. B
Daily, chairman.

Prior To Leaving
Warrant Officer and Mrs James

Betty Marshall are being extend
ed a’ number of courtesies prior to
leaving Clinton for their new poet
in Honolulu. Mr Marshall has|
been attached to the ROTC unit 1
at Presbyterian college for sever-1
al years.
Honoring the Marshalls, Lt. Col.
and Mrs. F. V. Smith entertained
guests for three tables for a bridge
dinner on Saturday evening.
Roses were used in decoration
throughout the receiving rooms.
Dinner was served buffet with
covers laid for the guests at small
tables. For the progressions fol
lowing dinner score awards were
presented Major and Mrs. Harry
F Lowrhan.
Tuesday afternoon Mrs. D B.
Smith was hostess to a few' close
friends of Mrs Marshal! for two
tables -of bridge The honoree
made top score and w-as also re
membered with a going away gift.

Street Methodist church enter
tained them at supper at Pano
rama lodge on Wednesday eve
ning.

gave a steak supper on Saturday
evening at the home of Sgt. and
Mrs. William H. Sampson on Hol
land street for the Marshalls.
