it does occur, that it is necessary
to readjust and try to improve
himself.
The danger of serious injuries
is extremely remote. We have

We are determined here at
Clinton high school to implant a
behavior. We stress the fact that
high standard of moral and social
no profane language will be used
in the dressing room or on the i
field. We try to teach that there
is honor in winning only when

erage bottles and a general line
of glass containers. Their prod
ucts are used in a wide territory
including eastern, southern and
southwestern states.
The company eomends the un

the management of the company.

The real problem involved in
this dispute relates to a right re
served to management alone;
namely, the right to manage, to
select, promote, discipline and re
move its foremen. Foremen fall
within the exclusive jurisdiction
of management; therefore, ^ any
attempt to force management to
remove a foreman is highly un
reasonable and is not within, the
proper prerogative qi . a union.
The company maintains that
whatever discipline is necessary
in regard to this foreman is for
management to impose and is not.

ized compulsion by the union.
The company considers the real
issue in this strike a serious one
since the right of management to
mangae its business is at stake.
A6out 9:00 A. M. on Tuesday
August 21, the President of Local
143 sent mahagement an ultima
tum that the foreman involved in
this dispute be removed and that
the man who walked off his job
at 2:00 A. M in the morning be
put back to work without loss of
time or seniority.
The company met with mem
bers of the committee of Local
143 at approximately 11:45 and
again very carefuly explained its
position. These men returned to
the Packing Department and they
with other packers immediately
walked off their jobs at 12:l5 P
M without any notice or regard
for the protection of glass con
tainers then in the process of pro
duction and without • following
the terms of their collective bar
gaining agreement between the
company and/the union.
The company regrets this inci
dent and the many various reper
cussions that result from such
situations, but it cannot surren
der its inherent rights.
