On Monday evening Miss Jen
nie Addison invited a few frifends
to her home near Joanna for her
visitor, Miss Jayne Chapin, of
Belleville, N. J.
During the informal get-to
gether snadwiches, assorted dain
ties and cold drinks were served
bcffet. Records and dancing were
enjoyed during the evening.
Bridge Club Is
Entertained Tuesday
Tuesday afternoon Mrs. W. A.
Alexander entertained members
of her club with a dessert bridge
at her home on South Adair
street.
Two tables were appointed on
the porch for refreshments and
later several progressions were
enjoyed. High and second score
prizes went to Mrs. Paul Pearson
and Mrs. Fuller Reese. Jr.
Ellen Lawson Has
Eleventh Birthday
Ellen Lawson, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Claude M. Lawson, cel
ebrated her eleventh birthday
Saturday, July 28. In observance
of the occasion she was given a
weiner roast at her home near
Joanna.
About fifteen girls enjoyed the
occasion.

Upon arrival Miss Thomas was
given a noaegay of sweetheart
roses. A pink and white color
color note was prettily carried out
in the party appointments with
roses predominating in the floral
decorations. Three tables were ar
ranged for “'heart’s dice.” During
the evening a shower of gifts was
presented in a novel manner to the
bride-elect. Later salad and sweet
courses were served with punch'.
Shower Given
For Miss Thomas
A kitchen shower was given on
Wednesday afternoon of the past
w'eek for Miss Terry Thomas,
bride-elect of the month, by Mrs.
L. E. Cason and Mrs. R. F. Martin
at their home on Calvert avenue.
Decorating the entertaining
rooms were chrysanthemums, zin
nias, hydrangeas and craipe myr
tle in varied arrangement.
When the guests assembled
“Bride” was played with prizes
which followed the kitchen theme
being in turn presented to the hon-
oree. A novelty kitchen corsage
was given M ss Thomas to wear
and the shower of kitchen gad
gets were rolled In on a serving
cart.
Later the hostesses served a sal
ad plate with sandwiches, assort
ed party dainties and lime punch
carried ..out a green and white
motif. - “
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marchand Shaw, of Raleigh. North Caro
lina. announce the engagement of their duaghter, Ann Martin
Shaw, and Lf. George Henry Cornelson, son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Georg* Henry Cornelson and grandson of Mrs. Emma Bailey
Cornelson. of this city.
Miss Shaw made her debut in Raleigh in 1953, attended the Sor-
borae in Paris, and was graduated from Hollins tollege in Roanoke.
Virginia, this past June.

Hays hospital. Before marriage

ARP Bible Class
Continues Study
The July meeting of the Ladies
Bible class of the Associate Re
formed Presbyterian church was
held on Monday evening at the
church with Mrs. W. B. Tribble,
Misses Margaret and Katherine
Blakely as hostesses.
Continuing the study on “Nights
of the Bible,” giving the story of
Daniel in the lion’s den. Later
during a social hour the hostesses
served ice cream and cake.
Hicks-Jones
Rites Announced
Announcement has been made
of the marriage of Mrs. Hallie M.
Hicks to Dolan Jones of Monroe,
N. C.,
The rites were performed by
Dr. C. H. Keymann in Hender
sonville on July 26. Mrs. Jones
wore for her wedding a Wedge-
wood blue imported suit with
matching velvet hat and an or
chid corsage.
Mr. and Mrs. Jones are here for
several days before going to Mon
roe to make their home where
the former owns and operates

Lakeside Cottage
Mrs. Pejry M. ,Moore incited
members of her Thursday bridge
club the past week to her cottage
on Lake Greenwood for luncheon
During the afternoon they were
joined by guests for an extra ta
ble for cards, and iced watermel
on was served.
Marigolds, zinnias and crepe
myrtle added attractiveness to
the cottage for the occasion.
When scores were counted, fol
lowing the progressions, prizes
went to two club guests, Mrs.
Henry M. Young nad Mrs. J. B.
Speake.

Honored With Party
Among courtesies extended
Miss Terry Thomas since the an
nouncement of her engagement,
was the coke party given on
Wednesday morning of the past
week by Mrs. Fuller Motes and
Miss Becky Speake at the home
of Mrs. Joe W. Leake.
Throughout the receiving
rooms were many lovely summer
arrangements including roses,
gladioli, zinnias and althea. Dur
ing the informal hour guests were
invited to the refreshment table
the dining room. Adorning
this were pastel tinted gladioli in
a low container. The bride-elect
was presented a nosegay and a
gift in crystal and silver from the
hostesses.

was a patient at Hays hospital
during the week, suffering in
juries received in an automobile
accident.

Friends of Mrs. C. M. Bailey
will be interested to know she is
a patient at Glen Brunswick
Memorial Hospital, Brunswcik.
Ga., suffering a broken knee cap
injury.
Mrs. Bailey has been vacation
ing at Sea Island, Ga., with other
members of her family for sev
eral weeks and sustained the in
jury in a fall there on July 21.
Her condition is improving satis
factorily.

the birth of a son, Grayson Den
ny, at Anderson Memorial hos
pital on July 2. They have one
other son, William Walter, five

held on Tuesday evening, August
7, at 7:30 at the American Legion
home to select ten contestants to

o’clock at the Clinton Mills ball
park.

the one selected on basis of popu
larity will be awarded a cash
prize by M. S. Bailey andRBon,
Bankers; and the one selected by
Arthur Smith will appear on his
TV talent show.

John R. Ellis, Jr, of Columbia;
one brother, C. Carroll Smith, of
Columbia; one sister, Mrs. ‘ Sue
Fuller, of Greenville; and three
grandchildren.
Funeral services were conduct
ed Thursday at 4:00 p. m. at the
Kennedy Mortuary by the Rev.
C. F. MoCutchens. Burial was in
the Laurens city cemetery %
