Engagement
Announcement
On Tuesday evening following
the announcement of the engage
ment of Miss Jean Simmons, of
this city, and James S. Putnam,
of Laurens, the bride-elect was
feted by Mrs. Olin Furr and her
daughter, Mrs. Curtis F'reeman,
with a miscellaneous shower.
About twenty friends gathered
and enjoyed games, including
bridal bingo. Later a sandwich
plate and cake were served. The
hostesses gift to the honoree was
crystal.

the program on “Scatter the Seed”
by Mrs. Allen Simmons.

Little Girl Has
Birthday Party
In celebration of her fifth birth
day Thursday, July 5, Eileen Bell
was given an afternoon party at
the home of her parents, Mr. and
Mfs. Julian M. Bell on Elm street.
Mrs. Joe Edwards assisted m
entertaining the sixteen little folk
with outdoor games. The refresh
ment table was prettily appointed
on the lawn with the birthday
cake decorated in pink and white.
The cake was cut and served with
ice cream. Colorful balloons used
in decoration and novelty favors
were given the children'.
Brunch Given For
Visitors Here
Mrs. J. B. Templeton entertain
ed with a brunch on Monday at
11 o’clock at the Hotel Mary Mus-
grove for her daughters, Mrs.
Donald Mann, of Lake Wales, Fla.,
and Miss Miriam Templeton, of
Boston, Mass., who are visiting
here. Special guests included two
other visitors, Mrs. J. F. Beckman,
of Lodi, Calif., and Mrs. L. C. Mc
Carthy, formerly of Shreveport.
Roses, zinnias and chrysanthe
mums in varied arrangements
were used in the dining rooms
and on the tables where covers
were Laid for the guests. A three
course menu was served.
Linda Suddeth Has
Fourth Birthday *
On Monday morning from nine
to ten-thirty Linda Suddeth,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. No
lan Suddeth, was given a party
in celebration of her fourth birth
day.
Twenty-one little friends en
joyed games, after which refresh
ments of ice cream, cake and
mints wefe served with punch.
The doll birthday cake was in
blue and white.
Linda was remembered with a
number of gifts and .each little
guest was presented a party fa
vor. ,

Held In Joanna

and Profesional Women’s club
held the July meeting at the Jo
anna chib house in Joanna.

effectively used for decorations.

session. She gave a report of the
National B&PW meeting held
June 30-July 7 in Miami, to
which she was club delegate
P. N. Sullivan, representative of
the calendar which the club
sponsors each year, was present
and gave helpful ideas for the

hour was enjoyed and home
made ice cream, punch and cakes

poms, and fern against a back
ground of magnolias with an
open Bible decorated the church
for the candlelight ceremony.
Mr. Bob Holmes, brother of the
groom, was best man. Ushers
were Russell Trammell, of Clin
ton; Troy Whitfield, cousin of
the groom, Clinton; Larry Bag-
well, cousin of the groom, Lau
rens; and Eddie Fulmer, cousin

Miss Betty Ruth Baker, of Mt.
Pleasant, was maid of honor.
Other attendants were Miss Jack

Holmes, Clinton, sister of the
groom; and Miss Bettty Ann
Thomas, cousin of the bride. Kay
Thomas, niece of the bride, was

cousin of the bride, was ring
bearer.
The maid of honor wore a bal
lerina length dress of maize ny
lon lace and tulle over taffeta,
with tiny frills from the waist
down in back and^ matching
stole. She carried a nosegay of
white pom poms centered with
carnations edged with nylon to
match the dress.
The bridesmaids wore dresses
like Miss Baker in pastel shades
and carried matching nosegays,
k The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore nylon lace
and tulle over taffeta with three-
quarter length sleeves and a
Peter Pan collar.
The tulle veil was attached to
a crown of seed pearls. She car
ried a white Bible topped with
a white orchid and white ftream-
ers.

Honored In Easley
Miss Terry Thomas and Robert
Freeland, whose marriage takes
place August 12 were honored
Sunday evening, July 1, at the
Park Street Baptist church in Eas
ley. Mr. Freeland is assistant pas
tor and music director at the
church. The surprise party and
shower was given during a church
wide fellowship hour.
Several choruses were sung and
during a candlelight service Miss
Thomas was presented a white
Bible by members of her Sunday
school class. The honored couple
was sent on a relay hunt over the
church during which they found
lifts from each Sunday school de
partment. -
During the evening ice cream,
cookies and cold drinks were
served.

the bride of Robert W. Wiggins,
Jr., of Raleigh* N. C., and Winter
Haven, Fla.

wedding setting.
The bride wore a white after
noon dress with white accessories
and a purple throated orchid.
Mrs. Wiggins was graduated
from Clinton high school in 1964.
She has been employed by the
Southern Bell Telephone company
here, having been transferred to
Winter Haven, at the time of her
marriage.
Mr. Wiggins, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. R. W. Wiggins, of Raleigh,
N. C., is presently employed in
Winter Haven where they will
make their home.

Fete Recent Bride
Mrs. R. D. Nance and Mrs. E.
M. Timmerman were hostesses at
a lovely miscellaneous shower on
Saturday afternoon, the 28th of
June, at the home of the former
honoring Mrs. Paul Foshee.
The living room and large
porch were beautifully decorat
ed with vari-colored roses, day
lilies and gladioli with ivy.
Little Jane Timmerman, dress
ed in green organdy, pulled in a
pretty wagon covered in green
“and while filled with lovely gifts
for the happy occasion.
Guests were asked to give their
favorite recipes to the bride, who
was presented a file in which to
keep them. The hostesses also
remembered Mrs. Foshee with a

her chosen pattern. During the
afternoon cold drinks, sandwich

were served in buffet style.

Mrs. Chapman, mother of the
groom, wore pink lace over taffe-
ta and her corsage was white
gardenias.
A reception was held in the
social hall of the church. Rev.
and Mrs. James B. Mitchell in
troduced the guests to the receiv
ing line, and Mrs. E. J. Willing
ham invited the guests into the
social hall. Miss Ruth Hair pre
sided at the bride's register.
Mrs. Clisby Templeton pine
sided at the punch bowl. Others
assisting in entertaining were
Mrs. Virgie Garner, Mrs. James
Fulmer, Mrs. Lee Thomas, Mrs.
Harry Lee Thomas, Misses Judy
Templeton, Ginger Gamer, Mar
lene Thomas, and Joann Tomp
kins.
The bride’s table was in the
center of the room with a cake
of three tiers. White magnolias
surrounded the cake and a bird
cage filled with white gladioli
and greens was suspended over
the table. Green and • white
flowers were used throughout
the social halls with white can
dles. Misses Ethel Mae Rowe
and Patricia Carr played piano
selections during the reception.
Following the reception the
couple left for a trip to the
mountains of North Carolina and
Tennessee. Mrs. Holmes wore a
mint green chambray dress with
white accessories. She wore the
white orchid from the Bible.
The bride was graduated from
Clinton high school, and Ander
son Junior college in 1954. She
attended Waldrop’s Beauty acad
emy in Greenville and is now an
operator at Dell’s Beauty shop in
Clinton.
Mr. Holmes attended the public
schools of Clinton and served
with the navy. He is employed
by T. C. Johnson Co. of Clinton.
