Mrs. Earl Stewart, her un-, cle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Norris. Mrs. Raymond Pitts and Mrs. Ayliffe Jacobs left Monday for Boone, N. C., where they will spend two weeks attending sum-^ mer school at Appalachian State Teachers college Jean and Marjorie Arnold are / visiting their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. L W. Rawl, in Williams burg, Va.. for several weeks. Major and Mrs. W. S. Home and son, Billy, of Fort Bragg, Fayette ville, N.C., will arrive tomorrow to spend the week-end with the latters mother, Mrs. P. B. Adair and other relatives. Billy will re main for a longer visit. Mr and Mrs John 3 Buckley and four sons, formerly of West Point, Miss., Have moved to the Carolina Milling Co. farm near here. Mr. and Mrs. William Sims spent last week at Myrtle Beach where they were Joined by Bea man Rampey and son, Ted, Mias Joyce Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Wil liam Davis and daughter. Marsha, of Piedmont. •Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Beckman #nd sons, John, David and James, left by plane Tuesday to return to their home in Lodi, Calif., after a several weeks visit with Mrs. Beckman’s parents. Mrs. R. E. Fer guson. Sara Speake Weathers and Bert Weathers returned Tuesday to their home in Greenville after spending the past week with Mr. and Mrs. Joe W. Leake. Their pa rents, Mr. and Mm George A. Weathers, also visited here dur ing the week. Miss Billie Burts visited her sis ter, Mrs. L. C Watford and Mr. Watford in Florence last week. Mrs. Watford accompanied her home for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Burts. Mrs. John Matthew: Smith, of Decatuf. Ga., was the guest of Mrs. F F. Barnette. 1,700 Lose Drivers' Licenses During June ♦ - — Over 1,700 South Carolinians lost their drivers licenses during June for violation of state traffic laws, according to the South Carolina highway department. Records show that 1,726 licenses were withdrawn. In Laurens county 26 persons lost their licenses to drive during the month. Driving under the influence of intoxicants was responsible for 939 withdrawals, and failure to prove safety responsibility, 366. The point system claimed 252 li censes and reckless driving was • responsible for 132. Thirty-seven wei withdrawals were listed “other’’ causes. 1 under Country Club Swimming Pool Opens Sunday The swimiming pool just com pleted at Lakeside Country club will be opened to members for the first time on Sunday, July 15. Ben F. Carson. Burial was in the church cemetery. To Be Held Monday A Court of Honor, Boy Scouts of Laurens county, will be held Monday evening, July 16, at 7:30 at Liberty Springs Presbyterian church in Cross Hill. Merchants Committee Meet Friday Morning The Merchants Committlee of the Chamber of Commerob will meet Friday morning /at 10 o’clock in the forum rooin of the Bank of Clinton. D. B. Palmetto Bank At Laurens To Build New Structure Laui^ns, July 6—The .Palmet to Bank’s first completely new building in its 50-year history, expected to cost over $150,000. will be constructed on the site of the bank’s parking lot at the cor ner of W. Main and South Har per streets. The announcement was made by D. F. Patterson, president of the bank, who said that the board of directors expected to sign a contract for the structure with the Fiske-Carter company of Spartanburg Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Patterson said constnjction would begin in 30 days apd be completed in 270 working ^lays. The modern, two story building will be 47 feet wide and 95 feet deep, with a full basement. The front, facing West Main street, will be completely glassed in with Pennvernon tinted glass, giving a full view of the main floor from the street. The South Harper street side will be constructed of cordova cream Texas limestone with a Texas granite base. Aluminum window sash will be used in the construction. / Air conditioned throughout, the building will have ample space for six tellers, small loan department and other officers and personnel. The directors’ room wjll be on the mezzanine of of the second floor. Also planned are a night depository and drive- in window. Sheriff, Officers Destroy Stiff Laurens, July 6—After an all- night vigil by two deputies, sher iffs deputies destroyed a 26-bar rel still Saturday about 10:00 a. m. near Goodman’s Cross Roads., it was reported at the sheriffs office. Deputy sheriffs Jim Wlliiams and Paul Prince made the vigil and were joined in the morning by the other officers. Concluding that the operators had gotten wind of the vigil and would not show up again, the ouftit was 1 destroyed. Besides the still approximately 1,000 gallons of mash were de stroyed. Taking part in the raid besides Deputies Hughes and Prince were Sheriff Lowery and Deputies Tom Williams, Howard Watkins and Bill Patterson. Phone 1246 Seven Killed In Traffic Accidents During Week During the week ending June 30 seven persons were killed and 121 injured in 347 traffic acci dents on South Carolina high ways, according to a state high way dpeartment report. Thus, for the first half of 1956, the traf fic toll stands at 314; 18 more, than for the initial six months of 1955. Sentence Medlin To 30 MonHis Laurens — Vedis Meddin, on probation on three charges of housebreaking and larceny, was sentenced to 30months in prison Monday for violation of the pro bation. J. B. Merchant, probation offi cer for Laurens, Abbeville and Greenwood counties, said Medlin was sentenced to 70 days Friday by a Laurens county magistrate for driving under the influence of intoxicants, insfufficient brakes and failure to have the car registered in his name.
