April Meeting
ARP Bible Class
The April meeting of the La
dies Bible class of the Associate
Reformed Presbyterian church
was held at the church on Mon
day with Mrs. Marvin Turner,
Mrs. George Bryson and Miss
Martha Jane Biyson as hostess

Mrs.' Ernest Hitt taught a chap
ter from the study book, “The
Man Who Forgot.”
During the social hour which
followed the program, a salad
course, cake squares and punch
were served.
Bridesmaid Luncheon
A bridesmaid luncheon was
given for Miss Frances Toylar on
Saturday, April 21, prior to her
marriage by her sister, Mrs. Kit
Young, of this city, at the Mary
Musgrove Hotel.
• Miss Taylor was presented a
lovely .corsage and a silver gob
let. Guests included in addition
to the honoree, Mrs. W. A. Taylor,
her mother, Mrs. J. E. Rouse, Mrs.
Joe Winn, Mrs. Marion Craine,
Mrs. Abe Smith, Mrs. Jack Grif
fin, 'Miss Marian Walker, all of
Laurens, and Mrs. Shirley Boone,
of Myrtle Beach.

shower honoring Miss Jackie
Truluc^ summer bride-elect.
Pastel tinted flowers arranged
in the receiving rooms carried
out the bridal motif. After sev
eral appropriate games a sweet
course was served with coffee,
the hostseses being assisted by
her mother, Mrs. T. D. Kinney,
and sister. Miss Anne Kinney.
The honoree’s mothers Mrs. R.
S. Truluck, also Mrs. Bessie Mat
thews and Mrs. Glenn Truluck of
Lynchburg, in addition to a num
ber of Sumter relatvieg and
friends ware invited for the oc
casion.

A number of parties were given
honoring Lt. Col. and Mrs. Joe
-Hollis during their recent visit
here with the former’s brother
and sister-in-law. Mr. and Mi
Thomas F. Hollis. Mrs. Hollis
was also a special guest at a num
ber of other social gatherings.
Their host and hostess gave a
dinner party inviting about twen
ty guests.
The buffet table held grapes
and flowers artistically arrang-!
ed in a crystal bowl. Elsewhere 1
in the receiving rooms where
small tables were appointed for
the guests, tulips and azaleas
were used in decoration.

ed eight friends for a luncheon
at the Wallace House in compli
ment to Mrs. Hollis.
Friday Mrs. Pringle Copeland,
Jr., entertained for the visitors
with a bridge luncheon.
Players for two tables assm-
bled for a number of morning
games and at noon they were in
vited into the dining room where
the tables were appointed for
luncheon. Iris were prettily ar
ranged as a centerpiece. Else
where in the home dogwood was
used.
Top score was mede by Mrs.
Reese Young and guest prizes
were presented Mrs. Hollis and
Mrs. Norman L. Sloan, Jr.
