/ * Page Tw o THE CLINTON Wasson Announces for State Senate Has Served Seven Terms In the House Representative Robert C. Was- s o n, yesterday afternoon a n- nuonced that he will be a candi date for State Senator from Lau-/ rens county in the approaching primary. § Mr Wasson, at present one of the three county representatives in the general assembly. ^ He is now completing his seventh term. He was once a candidate for Congress from the Fourth Con-“ gressional district. Mr. Wasson is a merchant and has other business interests at Hickory Tavern in this county, where he makes his home. The announcement that he is to make the Senate race was brought to The Chronicle office late yes terday afternoon after the front page was made up. Dur- my seven terms in the legisla ture I have taken a firm stand for the principles that make a state great. As a business man I feel that the affairs of state and coun ty should be transacted on a sound business basis. All mdney spent by the county and state must come from the taxpayers, therefore oftentimes it is impos sible to grant all of the requests for expenditures. 1 favor strict law enforcement^'' a sound tax structure, fairness to both capital and labor, good schools and high ways, and friendliness toward more industry for odr county. “I am deeply grateful to the fine citizens of Laurens county who have so many times expressed to me their confidence and endorse ment of my principles by electing me to the General Assembly sev en times. It is being built opposite the Thornwell high school on West Calhoun street. To be built of granite, the home will be a handsome, commodious structure. This is the third building to be given to Thornwell by the Hart ness family. A gymnasium was built in 1950 and a home for girls in 1954. The play, “Me and My Shadow,” is an uproarious, action-packed comedy drama in three acts, and will be given in the school gym- tor ium Monday night, March 19, at 8 o’clock. The predicament Roy Harring ton gets in soon after his young wife, Arleen, leaves for a week end visit by trying to save the life of Shadow, is intensified by an unexpected visit by his moth er-in-law and frequent pryings by his nosey neighbor, Georgia But ler. The cast of characters is: Roy Harrington, young attor ney—-Arthur Wesley. Arleen Harrington, his wife— Annette Adams. Mrs. King, Roy’s mother-in-law —Marilyn Taylor. / Susan Fisher, the Harrington’s helper—Betty Davis. Bruce Douglas, Roy’s friend, a doctor—Robert Judon Georgia Butler, a nosey neigh bor—'Dorothy Smith “Shadow”, a mysterious hido girl—Mattie Simpson. Hickson, the country sheriff— John Hester. Clinton Wins Land Judging Laurens, March *13—TTie land judging team representing the Clinton high school chapter, Fu ture Farmers of America, this aft ernoon won the Laurens-Green- wood Federation land judging con test, according to W. M. Mahoney 1 of Honea Path, District One super visor of agricultural education, who conducted the contest. The team was composed of Grady Fallow, Jack Davis. Ben Crouch and Charles Nabors. E. B. Few is advisor. Second place team was Gray Court-Owings which made 363 points out of a possible 720. Com posing this team were Alton Vaughn, Charles Redd, Evans Wilkie and Jimmy Bums.
