Bill Provides For
Sale Of Timber
At WhHten Village
Columbia, Feb. 22—A bill has
been drafted by the Senate Fi
nance Committee providing for
the sale of certain “merchantable”
timber on the lands of Whitten
Village in Laurens county,
The maesure specifies that the
timber is ta be sold only after the
trees are selected and marked for
sale, and the conrtact of sale is to
contain a provision that the tim
ber is to be cut and removed only
undre such conditions as may be
prescribed by the State Forestry
Commission.
If as much as $20,000 is derived
from the sale, it may be used by
the Mental Health Commission to
purchase additional lands for pas
turage for Whitten Village.
Money in excess of $20,00 is to
go to the state’s general fund.
LOSES BEOTHEE
Friends of Mrs. George T. (Brown
will sympathize with her in the
death orf her brother, Earl J. Stew
art of Greenville. Mr. Stewart
passed away last Wednesday at
the Veterans hospital, Columbia,
after a period of declining health.
Funeral services were held Satur
day morning at Mackey’s mor
tuary with interment at Graceland
cemetery.
Mr. Stewart had served with an
engineers corps in, World War I
and participated in the campaign
of breaking the Hindenburg Line.

ed the reassignment of two mem
bers of the ROTC staff at the col
lege.
They are Sgt. P. F. Jones and
Sgt. V. M. McGuire.
Both will report to the Eighth
Infantry division, Fort Carson,
Colorado.

PC To Meet Six
1956 Track Foes
The South Carolina Intercolle
giate Track and Field meet will
be held at Presbyterian college
on May 4-5 this year, Athletic Di
rector Walter A, Johnson announc
ed today in releasing the PC track
schedule.
Six dual meets will carry the
Blue Hose cindermen right up to
the 29th running of the colorful
state competition often referred to
as South Carolina’s Little Olym
pics.
This 1956 schedule, representing
one of the strongest slates yet to
be necountered by the trackmen
of Coach Lonnie S. McMillian, will
bring two visiting teams to PCj ton
for dual meets while the Blue Hose i May 4-5—State
