Blue Ridge Scout
Council Board
Meets In Greenville
Executive board members of
Blue Ridge Council. Boy Scouts
of America, held their quarterly
meeting Tuesday night in Green
ville. j
Those from“ this area attending
the meeting were W C. Baldwin
and A. C. Young, Jr., of Clinton,
and Jajte Rasor of Cross Hill, with
Jim Teeter, field scout execu
tive.

of three new units for his dis
trict with an increase of 60 scouts.
The goal for the Blue Ridge coun
cil &as set at 63. new scout units
and 1206 scouts There are at
present 277 units in the council
serving 6855 boys.-
Organizations interested in
sponsoring scout units (cub pack,
scout troop or explorer post) are
asked to Contact Mr. Baldwin or
some other executive board mem
ber or the field representative.
Laurens county at present has
20 troops composed of 460 boys.
The week of February 5-12 is
the 46th anniversary of Boy
Scouts' of America l^urens
county has planned a father-son
banquet to be held in the Pres
byterian college dining hall on
Tuesday, the Tth. at 7:45. Tickets
for the banquet may be secured
from the scoutmasters.

Savings and Loan
Association Holds
Annual Meeting
The annual meeting of mem
bers of the Citizens Federal Sav
ings. and Loan association was
held: last Wednesday, at which
timej present directors were re
elected, and authorization was
granted to directors to adopt a
new land more' modern charter
which the Home Loan Bank has
made available to savings and
loan jassociations.
Officers of the association are:

Prather, vice-president; J. Sloan
Todd, secretary-treasurer; Mrs.
Henry M. Hunter, assistant sec-
retary-treasufer
Directors include Messrs. Boyd,

County Gets $1,769.55
From Beer, Wine Tax
South Carolina’s counties have
received $79,745.23 asTTFieir share
of the state’s tax on beer and wine
for the October.-December quar
ter, according to records of the
state tax commission.
Laurens county’s share for the
three.months was $1,769.55.
At the same time, the commis
sion has distributed $91,137.42 -to
the various cities of the state and
has retained $968,335 in the state
treasury for support df the public;
schools and for other state purpos
es.
More than 80 per cent of the
beer and wine tax comes from
beer alone. .
