First Week Of 1956 Results In Ten Deaths Nineteen fifty-six has already seen ten persons killed on South Carolina highways. According to the state highway department these fatalities, which occurred twice as many as there were In between January 1 and 7, are the first Week of last year. There were also 156 injured and 533 accidents during the first week of the new year. Chief Highway Commissioner Claude R. McMillan said that he hopes this is no indication of another Up ward trend in accidents and fa talities. ,, “Having just ended a year which saw nearly 150 more deaths than 1954, the, public should begin to profit by the knowledge that carleessness and disregard of the ruesl of the road killed many of these people. A speed only slightly more than road conditions indicate, or a single ovresight of a traffic sign can spell disaster for even good drivers. My wish for this year is that all drivers wlil become coginzant of this fact.” Thomwell Youth Enlists In Marines Floyd Latty, of Thornweil or phanage was recently enlisted in the Marine corps for a period of four years, according to an an nouncement by S-Sgt.
