The first meeting of the new
year of the Woman’s Christian
Temperance Union was held at
the home of Mrs. George Ander
son Tuesday afternoon. ,
Mrs. Clyde Todd gave the de
votional using as her subject. “Set
A Watchman.” A- solo “On ‘the
Jesus Way” by Mrs. Anderson and
hymn “Standing On the Promis
es" were the musical selections.
Mrs. Clarence R. Thayer was
appointed chairman of speech and
poster contest committee. Mrs. An
derson will organize and be lead
er of the Loyal Temperance
Union. The group decided, to have
a cake ai^d pie sale In March.
The February meeting will be
an evening service at 730 at the
First Baptist church. Rev. Layton
T. Fraser will give highlights of
the leadership seminar in alcohol
studies and Christian council held
in Columbia recently.

tess served delicious cookies, fudge
and Russian tea.

To UDC Members
The January meeting of v the 1
Stephen D. Lee chapter, United
Daughters of the Confederacy, was
held Thursday evening with Mrs-
C. Bynum Betts, Miss Ruth'feailey
and Mrs. A. E. Copeland as co
hostesses.
Mrs. Jasper Rowland, vice pres
ident, opened the meeting with
the pledge to the flag of the Unit
ed States followed by salute to
the South Carolina flag and the
flag of the Confederacy. The rit
ual was then recited and the chap
ter was led in prayer by Mrs. A.
M. Copeland. ,
Miss Agnes Davis, January pro
gram chairman, introduced Mrs.
E. B. Ginsburg, the speaker of the
evening. Mrs. Ginsburg gave an
interesting, informative talk on her
recent travels in Yugoslavia,
Greece and Bulgaria.
Afterwards Russian tea, sand
wiches and cookie^ were served
by the hostesses.

Tuesday morning at Hartness hall
with Mrs. George Duncan and
Mrs. Dewey Armstrong as hos

presided. Mrs. G. A. Black gave
the devotional and taught the
Bible study from Genesis. A pro
gram on “Family Relationships,”
was presented by Mrs. Alice
Brownlee. .

Saute giblets briefly. Chop, mix with wild rice, and stuff squab. Sew up or skewer opening. Sprinkle
lightly with salt, papper, and flour. Place breast side up on rack in roasting pan with a Half-slice
of bacon on top of each. Put a little water in pan and roast 45 minutes in 350-degree oven, basting
occasionally. Garnish with baby carrots and tiny browned qnions. Serves 4.

week at the Presbyterian church.
Miss Cornelia Harris, president,
introduced the guest pianist who

of the “Moonlight Sonata" (Bee
thoven); "Bach in'TU^flat” from
the “Well-Tempered Clavichord”
(Bach); “Warshaw Concerto’’ (Ad-
