CHRISTMAS WREATH }| COFFEE CAKE Christmas inspires all sorts Of good things, and extra goodies are just as much a yuletide tra dition as holly and mistletoe. Holiday breakfasts especially deserve attention. Festive food at the start of the day sets the mood. Christmas Wreath Coffee Cake is a goodie you can whip up in a jiffy to cheer folks on their way some December morning. It's quick as biscuits to prepare and bakes in only 20 minutes. The self-rising flour in the recipe already contains baking powder and salt in the correct amounts. You save the time it takes to measure and sift. You gam extra protection against mistakes. Plan on grapefruit halves, eggs the way your family likes them, bacon, and Christmas Wreath Coffee Cake. Serve it hot with lots of butter or mar garine to give your family plenty of zip for work—and fun- filled days. CHRISTMAS WREATH COFFEE CAKE X cap* lifted enriched telf-rUing float % cap shortening % cap chopped candied cherries X tablespoons chopped citron or candled pineapple X/3 to % cup milk ^ cup confectioners' sugar 1 tablespoon milk 6 haired candied cherries and thinK sliced citron for garnish, if desired Measure flour into mixing bowl. Cut or rub in shortening until mixture is crumbly. Add cher ries and citron. Blend to coat pieces of fruit with flour mix ture. Add milk to make a soft dough. Drop dough from a tablespoon in a circle on un greased baking sheet, using S spoonfuls for the center circle. Space remaining spoonfuls of dough in outer circle. Bake in hot oven (425 Deg. F.) until lightly browned, about 20 min utes. Remove to cooling rack and frost immediately with icing made by blending confec tioners’ sugar and milk. Garnish with cherries and citron. R O’Dell, presided during the busi ness hour and _ welcomed each one. Two new members were recognized, Mrs Elfi Davis and Mrs. Gordon Huffstetler. Final plans for the annual combined Christmas party with the Ladies Ever-Ready class were made. Mrs. James Simpson, program chairman, presented a most in teresting program with the theme, "We Would See Jesus.” Assisting 7 Mrs. Simpson were Mrs. O’Dell and Mrs Rudy Pra ter. The program closed with the Christmas story, taken from Luke in a candle-light setting The hostesses, Mrs. Pearl Wil liams and Mrs. Evangeline God frey, sreved a salad plate with sandwiches, candy and coffee. Christmas Music at Epworth The Christmas cantata, * “The Music of Bethlehem,” by Fred B. Holton, will be presented by the choir at Epworth Methodist church Sunday, December 18, at 7 o’clock. The different songs included are: “Ring On, O Song”; "A King Shall Reign"; “The Song of Hope"; "The First Christmas Carol”; “The Song of the Morn ing"; "To Bethlehem Draw Near”; “Let Heaven and Nature Sing"; “The Lullaby Hymn”; "The Music of the Bells”; “The March of the Magi”; "Hallelu jah”; and “The Music of Bethle hem." Soloists are Mrs Buford Weir and Mrs. Lavinia Cooley. Members of the choir are: Mrs. Cooley, Mrs. Weir, Mrs. James Simpson, Miss Brenda O’Dell, Mrs. Lester Longshore. Mrs. P. W Kennington of Atlanta, Ga, announce the birth of a son, John William, Jr., on Dec. 4. Mrs. Kennington will be remerroered by her many friends as Miss Audrey O’Shields of Joanna With The Sick Mrs. Bessie Jennings of Rt. 3, Clinton, was dismissed from Jo anna hospital on Dec. 8, follow ing treatment. Miss Betty Bridges was a pa tient for treatment several days last week at Joanna hospial. Mrs. Gertrude Avery under went surgery at Joanna hospital on December 8. Sorry to report Mrs. Claudia Crenshaw is a patient at the lo cal hospital following surgery. Friends of Mrs. Jeanette Farm er will be interested to know she is recuperating at her home on Laurens Road following treat ment at Joanna hospital. Thomas Franklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Motes, of Rt. 2, Clinton was a patient for treat ment at Joanna hospital on Dec. 11-12. Masons Elect Naw Officers Magnolia Lodge, No. 355, AFM, met in the lodge hall December 3. Campion On Sunday afternoon close friends and the family of Mrs. Jim Compton of Chicago, 111., gathered at the home of Mrs. R. L. Francis. The occasion was a surprise shower for Mrs. Comp ton, although she was not pres ent. During the party the hon- oree, not aware of the shower, called at the home of the host ess and talked exxritedly to each one present. The gifts were opened by her mother, Mrs. E. A.
