been record-breaking years, yet
they have been years that wane
marred with death, sorrow, mis

the midst of that which may not
have been pleasant, we have
much to be proud of. The joy
f victory has overshadowed de-

The pastor and Mrs. Spillers
have^giyen eight of the best
yearsor their lives in service to
God and Calvary Baptist church.
We are grateful to God and to
you for this place of service that
we have been permitted to fill.
Your cooperation, love and sym

give our best in the name of
Jesus.

“For the Man Who Cares”
‘The pastor should like to
give an account of his steward
ship for the past eight years.
This report may sound boastful
to some of you, but ti is not giv
en in that spirit, but that you
might know something of the ef
forts that have been made. More
than 8,000 home visits have been
made; more than 3,000 individ
uals have been contacted about
their relationship to Christ; 90
funerals conducted; 74 marriage
ceremonies performed. He has
preached 1,400 sremons, and 600
people have been united with
this and other churches where
he has conducted revival meet
ings, 442 people having united
with this church. $85,000.00 im
provements have been added to
the church property, including
the new pastorium which is near
completion.
“We know not what a day may
bring forth, but if it is God’s will
for us to labor together for an-
othef* eight years, or for even one
more year, I pledge to you the
same impartial, unselfish and de
voted service which I have tried
to render in the past. Also I so
licit from you your continued
prayers, good will and unselfish
cooperation in promoting the
kingdom of our Lord and Sav
iour Jesus Christ
“May I thank you again for
the many deeds of charity which
you have rendered in my behalf.
Eternity alone will reveal how
much you have meant to me and
my family. May the Lord bless
you and keep you humble and
sweet an d busy for the Master’s
sake.
“Sincerely and fratemially,
“J. W. SPILLERS

Seized By Red Police
In East Berlin Sector
Second Lt. James T. McQueen,
a 1954 graduate bf Presbyterian
college, U. S. Congressman Ed
ward P. Boland (D-Mass.), and
U. S. Congressman Harold C 0s-
tertag (R-N. Y.) and Mrs. Oster-
tag were seized Monday in East
Berlin by Red police, and were
held by them for four hours. Lt.
McQueen was serving as military
escort to the Congressmen while
on a tour of Communist dominat
ed East Berlin
Lt. McQueen, a native of Mul
lins, stated that they were arrest
ed for carrying a two-way radio
into the “German Democratic Re
public,” which is against their
law. A Red policeman stopped
their car and demanded the keys.
Lt. McQueen said he turned them
over at gunpoint When he tried to
inform U. S. headquarters via the
radio, a second policeman drew a
gun and stopped him.
They were taken to Soviet au
thorities who seemed to give little
attention to the fact that two of
the four were U. S. Congressmen
After much delay the affair was
worked through the police chain of
command up to the highest Soviet
authorities.
The Soviets turned the four
Americans over to the U. S. pro
vost marshal. The affair has pre
cipitated the question of the statu*
of American, British, and French
troopa with regards t? East Ger
man law.
Maj. Gen. Charles L Dasher,
Jr., made a “vigorous” protest to
the Societ commander of the city
about the seizure of Lt. McQueen
and the Congressmen.
14. McQueen was a prominent
campus leader as an undergrad
uate at PC.
