Mr. and Mrs. Mac Johnson, for merly of Sanford, N .C n are oc cupying an apartment in the home of Mrs. E. H. Hall on Hick ory Street. Mr. Johnson, a grad uate of Presbyterian Junior Col lege, is a ministerial student at Presbyterian College. Mrs. John son is employed in the office of Roy L. Hitchcock, architect. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Anderson were week-end guests of the for mer’s niece, Mrs. S. P. Phillips, and Captain Phillips, in Charles ton. Mrs. Florence S. Jenkins of Montgomery, Ala., arrived this week for a visit with her daugh ter, Mrs. Ben Hay Hammet, and Mr. Hammet. Mrs. MilfOrd Smith and daugh ter, Gail, have returned from a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Jones, in Blcaksburg. Lt. CoL and Mrs. Joel M. Hollis and children of Fort Benning. Columbus, Ga., will be guests of the former’s brother, Thomas F. Hollis, and Mrs. Hollis for the homecoming activities at Pres byterian College this week-end. C. W. Anderson spent several days last week on a business trip to Tampa, Fla. Friends of Jodie A. Chandler will regret to know he is ill and a patient at Joanna hospital. Mr. Chandler suffered a stroke Mon day night. Mrs. Quinton Chapman of Charleston, is visiting her moth er, Mrs. J. W. Donnan. Mr. Chap man was also here for the week end. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Holland of Allendale, visited relatives here during the week-end. Mrs. Hol land remained for a longer visit. Mrs. J. L. MdLendon of Olanta, spent last week here with her daughter, Mrs. H. L. Baldwin. Also visiting Mrs. Baldwin dur ing the week was a cousin, Mrs. W. R. Pritchett of Lake City. Mrs. Alida Anderson of Temple Ciyt, Calif., is spending some time with her son, Robert W. Anderson, and family. Mrs. John Townsend, Mrs. Dil lard Watson of Anderson, Miss Lulie Eichelberger of Laurens, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Eichelberger of Greenville, were guests on Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Eichelberger, coming especially for the scout award presentation at the First Presbyterian church, at which John Eichelberger re ceived the Eagle Scout award. Mrs. Newton Jones has return ed from a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry H. Wing in Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Hall and daughter, Miss Isabelle Hall, of Greenville, spent the week-end with the former’s mother, Mrs. E. H. Hall. Dr. and Mrs. B. J. Hammet of Allendale, visited their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hay Hammet, the past week end. Mr. and Mrs. Julian Bell and children, formerly of Elberton, Ga., will move Saturday into the Marion home on Elm street. Mr. Bell is the new Seaboard agent and has already begun his work here. Gene Anderson and grand daughter, Sally Rauch, of Ander son, visited his father, E. Frank Anderson, and other relatives here on Sunday. Mrs. Murphey Timmerman and Mrs. Thomas Baldwin on Sunday attended the funeral of their aunt, Mrs. J. P. Mr. and Mrs. Mac Poole, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Sanders and chil dren and Wayne Wood, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Martin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lamar King and children, Mr. and' Mrs. Floyd Poole and family, and Miss Peg gy Power of Laurens, attended the Dempsey family reunion at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Bums near Greenville Sunday. Mrs. Wilson Harris and Miss Cornelia Harris attended the Greenville News-Piedmont corre spondents meeting in Greenville Saturday- Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ttiraer and daughter, Susareve, of Decatur, Ga., were called here this week due to the death of the latter’s father, S. G. Dillard. Also here were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Salters and Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Odom, of Salters. Miss Anne Owens, of Columbia, spent the week-end with her pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Owens Miss Jackie Truluek, of FXirmari university, Greenville, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Remhert TruKick over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Hairy Sanders, of Allendale, were here Monday for the funeral of S. G. Dillard. Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Pinson were called to Albemarle, N. C., Sun day due to the death of the lat ter’s brother-in-law, A. P. Harris. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Godfrey at tended the Silver Wedding anni versary of Mir. and Mrs. Moore Bradley', of Greenville, at Caesar’s Head Sunday. Mrs Bradley is the former Miss Bee Babb, of Laur ens. Mrs. Ernest Chaney has return ed .from Atlanta where ahe visited her son, Frank A. Chaney. Mrs. S. F. Rampey, of Piedmont, spent the past two weeks here with her daughter, Mrs. W. M. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Sims and Mrs. S. F. Rampey, of Piedmont, who was visiting here were guests during the week of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Boland and Mrs. J. S. Stoude- mayer in Potnaria. Mrs. W. C. Shealy, Mrs. M. L. Robertson, Mrs. G. A. Burton, Mrs. R. C. Guy, Sr., and Mrs. O. O. Copeland, of Newberry, spent last Wednesday in Darlington as guests of Mrs. L. G. Friends of Earl Cogbum will regret to know he has been ill the past few days at his home on the Whitmire highway. S-A Floyd Fuller, who graduat ed Oct. 7 from the hospatol corps school, U. S. N. hospital, Ports mouth, Va., is spending a 30-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. OB. T. Fuller. Hie friends will be interested to know he was vale dictorian of hie class and made the student address. Friends of Mrs. Estelle Abrams will be interested to know.she is moving this week-end to make her home in Oonyers, Ga., with her daughter, Mrs. G. E. Plunkett and Mr. Plunkett She experts to spend the winter months there and later to visit here and elsewhere with her other children. Lanford Hostess To FiU Council Meet Last Week The fall meeting of the Laurens County CouncH of Farm Women was held ot Lanford Baptist church on last Thursday. Eighty- five women attended this meeting with 14 of the 21 home demon stration oktbs represented. Mrs. J. W. Tinsley, president of the council, presided over the meeting and Mks. James Wasson served as secretary, Mrs. Marion Mahon, citizenship chairman, led the group in repeating the council creed. The Rev. W. E. Walker gave the devotional Mrs. L. C. Holmes, member of Lanford HomewDemon stration dub, gave the welcome to the groop. Dr. C. R. Thayer, director of vocational guidance center at Presbyterian college, CUnton, was the principal speaker for the occa sion. The topic Dr. Thayer used was -This la Your Child's Life.” The symposium program plan of work waa lad by Mrs. B. A. Good win in the kbeencs of Mrs, Guy Mahon. The goal for the coming year were given and the 12 de- chairmen gave the goals for their respective depart ments. Mrs. F. B. Hebamt report ed on the state council meeting for Iftw. J. H. Power. Mrs. M. A. WUson) county council treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report. The district directors gave awards to the clubs having the best dub reports in their districts. Mrs. Toy Patton, district director for the north district, reported Warrior Creek receiving first place, Ora second place and Beth any third place. Mrs. Haskell Gray gave the awards for Mrs. Gray Hipp, who is west dastrkt direc tor. Oak Grove received first place, Barksdale-Narnie second place and Shady Grove third place. Mrs. J. H. Power, east dis trict director, gave the swards to Camak, receiving first place, Hick ory Tavern, second place, and IVkvMy Ridge third place. Mrs. Carrol Wallace reported for the courtesy committee. Mrs. Henry Harlan gave the report of the credentials committee and Di anne HMl and Nancy Hill served as pages. Mrs. Joe Poole invited the council to meet with Long Branch Home Denwnsti itiun club for the spring council meeting. - The attendance award waa pre sented to the president of Durbin chib for having the most mem bers present at the meeting. Barks- dale-Namie was second place and Grecnpond vfes third place win ner. Refreshments were served by the hostess club from 3:00 to 3 30 p. m. B & PW Club Sponsor Projects - The Business and Professional Women's club is now taking or ders for the Community Birthday Calendar for 195d. The Clinton high school band is working with the club and will share in the profits made from this project. Anyone desiring a calendar may secure one by contacting any of the club members. The club si also taking orders for fruit cakes and will have them ready for sale in time for Thanksgiving. Please place your orders as soon as poiuible so a sufficient number can be pre pared. Clinton Boy Leads State PFA Delegation To Kansas City Meet Ted Davenport, of Kinards, student at Clinton high school, heads the South Carolina delega tion of Future Farmers of Ameri ca in nation convention this week at Kansas City, Mo. Davenport is president of the state FT A chapter, having been elected at the S. C. convention at Clemson earlier this year. Ted is accompanied by E. B. Few, his teacher at the local high school. Approximately 150 delegates. teachers and school officials from this state are at the convention. Future Farmers attending the meeting are outstanding mem bers of chapters throughout the state who were awarded the trip after strict competition in farm performances and achievements. Reports of department heads, referring a matter on repairs to the heating system at the public tee, acceding to a request for aid library to the finance commit in building a tower for the local observer corps, and reading of the monthly report of the police department constituted the bus! ness of the session. The mayor nad all councilman were present. B. R. Austin, suprintendent of the light and water department, reported that new electric cus tomers for the month totaled nine, and new water customers.
