Mrs. Bessie Brown is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Maude Tur ner. Friends are sorry to know Mrs. Turner is ill at her home in Columbia. Sympathy Extended The community extends deep est sympathy to Cecil McLendon in the death of his father, H. C. McLendon, who passed away last Tuesday night in a Columbia hospital. He was also the father of Bill McLendon of Clinton. which thev report to Fort Bragg, N. C. Mr. and Mrs Claude Aber crombie and children of Laurens, were Sunday visitors, of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Abercrombie. Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Bailey and family and Misses Linda Lou and Peggy Sue Willard visited Mrs. Bailey’s father, W. E. McGinnis, in Pelzer Sunday. Mrs. Lois Webb and children. Mr. Thornburg’s sister, Mrs. N. E. Raiber and Mr. Raiber in Crosswell. Tenn., going especial ly for the Thornburg reunion, which was held on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Parker of Charlotte, N. C., spent the week end with the latter's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bodie. Mrs. E. W. Mitchell was re cently honored with a surprise Beverly and Tony, spent the birthday party at the home of week-end with their sister and her’son-in-law and daughter, Mr. aunt, Mrs. James Richie in Greenwood. Mrs Louise Jones of Drayton; spent the past Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. David Satterfield. Rev. and Mrs. W. L. Edwards and daughter of Lockhart, visited Mrs Joe Tharp Monday. and Mrs. Charles Meadors in Clinton. Only the family with H. S. Watson, Mrs. Mitchell’s father, of Mississippi, were pres ent. Mr. Watson has been vis iting his daughter for a few weeks. Services are being conducted by the Rev. E. A. Wilkes. Sr.„ of the Pelzer Metho dist church. He is the father of Rev. E. A. Wilkes. Jr., pastor of the Lydia and Sandy Springs churches. Special singing and a children’s chorus begin at 7:15 each eve ning. The public is cordially invited to each service. • Family Night Wednesday Wednesday evening will be family night at the Baptist church. All the organizations will meet at 7:30 p. m. With The Sick Mrs. Paul Arnold is ill. Litle Barry Kitchens is doing fine and is able to be out after an attack of polio.* Little Miss Sandy Huffstetler is improving although still not able to be out of bed yet. Friends of Mr. and Mrs. Huffstetler are glad to know Sandy is home. Mrs. Mary Mason continues ill at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Wells. Film To Be Shown There will be a special film en titled ‘The Life of Our Saviour,” shown Sunday evening, October 23, at the Lydia Methodist church at 7:30 p. m. The pastor, Rev. E. Austin Wilkes, Jr, invites everyone to see the film. $492 973.15 Eagle Badge Presented Scout Sunday evening at the Lydia Baptist church Joe Lark, son of Mr. and Mrs. B P. Lark, was pre sented the. highest award a boy can get in scouting, the Eagle Badge. A. C. Young, Jr., chairman of the Laurens County District of Scouts, made the presentation. Joe, a member of Troop 90 at Lydia, pinned the small badge on his mother and she in turn pin ned the badge on Joe. Ellis Huffstetler, Troop 90 scoutmaster, read a letter from the Blue Ridge Council to Joe. Trdop 90 now has two Eagle Scouts. Ronald Corley and Joe. Joint Birthday Dinner Enjoyed Mrs. A. T. Crawford who cele brated a birthday October 3 and her son-in-law. J. L. Mahaffey, whose birthday was October 10, w r ere honored with a birthday dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Mr. and Reminder of Carnival On October 29 the Hallowe’en carnival will be held at Provi dence school, sponsored by the Lydia Woman’s club and the school faculty. Birthdays and Anniversaries Floyd Poole celebrated his birthday October 8. Little Laura Darby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Darby, will be one year old Otc. 15. August Fatalities Above Last Year August traffic deaths in South Carolina climbed 23.9 per cent higher than the total for August, 1954, according to the state high way department’s monthly acci dent report.
