Today's homemaker is a smart food buyer. One of her favorite tricks
is taking advantage of "specials” in meats at the supermarket, buying
extra cuts and storing them in her home freezer to stretch her food
dollars.
But she also knows proper freezing must follow her trip to the store—
if her thrift-wise shopping is really to pay off. Thus she keeps in mind
three important points about freezing meats at home:
L Choose high quality meats. Since freezing does not improve the
flavor of any food, the frozen product will be no better than the food in
its original state.
2. Package meats properly. Choose a wrapping material which 1

result is loss of moisture, accompanied by a change in flavor. The food
soon becomes unpalatable. The condition known as "freezer burn” occurs
when air enters the package.
One of the best freezer wrapping materials on the market is the new
plastic wrap made of saran. Because this transparent film clings to the

t. Label foods accurately. Label each package with date, name of
product, and approximate number of servings. It is helpful to add an
"expiration date to the label—the maximum storage time. Most freezer
manuals will have storage time charts. Check freezer occasionally to
use up those foods stored longest. Use all foods before expiration date.
Careful attention to good freezer techniques and proper packaging
will insure a high quality frozen food product.

Effective Advertising
The South Carolina State Chamber of Commerce has
forwarded to retail merchants and others in its member
ship throughout the State "TEN POINTS FOR NEWSPAPER
ADVERTISING" which have brought a high measure of suc
cess, prosperity ond profit to a big retailer who spends o large
portion of his advertising appropriation in good newspaper
copy.
THE RETAILER’S 10 POINTS ARE:
1. Advertise regularly. Every issue of the paper lakes
my story to its readers.
2. I make every ad look like mine. Tears ago I adopted
a distinctive style and have stuck to it. I use plenty
of white space; my ads are never hard to read.
S. I put into newspaper advertising a definite proportion
of my gross sales. I fix this at the beginning of the
year. My rule is to make it 3 per cent of the previous
year’s gross, with more if special conditions justify it.
4. I brighten my ads with frequent illustrations—either
humorous or practical.
5. I am careful never to over-emphaaize. When I make
claims, I back them up with reasons. Then when I
really have an unusual bargain people believe me when
I “whoop ’er up a littlo.”
-
5. I think advertising all tke time. I buy

7. I get good display for my ads by seeing that the
copy is in the newspaper office in plenty of time. I
do this by having a definite hour U write the espy.
8. Whenever possible, I carry nationally
goods that are advertised in my heme
ture them. Sometimes they give me a
gin than fly-by-night coocerM, but I find
faster and make more money in the «
pleasing more customers. ^
9. I always plan my window and counter displays to
link up with my newspaper advertising. Each helps
the other.
10. My salespeople back up my advertising. They often
help with suggestions for it, and I try to see to it
that they always read it.

Let’s translate these Chevrolet vic

You’ve got to have faster acceleration
to win on the tracks. And that means
safer passing on the highways. You’ve
got to have better springing and suspen

for you. You've got to have big brakes
that act fast and smooth . . . and easy,

your driving safer.
But it’s more fun to try these things
