CECIL O’DELL, Correapondent and Representative Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Boyce and daughter, Cherry, of Aiken, are spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Boyce and Mr. and Mrs. Mason Rowland. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Darnell and children were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hazel in Greenwood. John Longshore of Fort Mill, spent the week-end with his brother, Lester Longshore. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Weinberg of Atlanta, Ga., spent last week with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sloan Rowland. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Yates of Sumter, spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Boyce and other relatives in Joanna. Mr. and Mrs. James Boutch- yard of Dayton, Ohio, spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Darnell and other relatives in Jo anna and surrounding commun ity. Mr. Boutchyard returned to Dayton on Sunday, while Mrs. Boutchyard will remain with relatives for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. James Brown and Terry were Saturday visitors in Greenville. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Brawley, Jr., and son, Chris, of Union, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Brawley. Mrs. G. N. Toy was a Saturday visitor in Greenwood with her nephew, Master Barry Foy, who is a patient at Self Memorial hospital following surgery. Mrs. James Lovelace is leav ing tomorrow for a three-weeks visit with her daughter," Mrs., Danny Howard, and Mr. How ard in Clearwater, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. O’Dell, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil O’Dell and chil dren attended the O’Dell reunion Sunday at Margaret Hunter park in Newberry. Mr. and Mrs. Elton Beden- baugh attended the Goff reunion in Saluda Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mitchell and sons of Newberry, were Sun day dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. V D. Beckam . Mr. andJUrs. R- G.jCaix.and Pat spent the week-end in Greensboro, N. C, with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Easterlnig. Mrs. P. W. Turner joined a group of friends and - attended the preachers’ wives luncheon at the country club in Florence on Saturday. Misses Carolyn and Shirley Alexander spent last week in Charleston with their aunt, Mrs. Louise Zetrover. Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Alexander joined the group for the week-end and the girls accompanied their parents home. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Tinsley of Newberry, visited Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Humphries Sunday.- Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Bishop of Newberry, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Beden- baugh. Their daughter, Shirley, who spent last week with Linda and Brenda Bedenbaugh, accom panied them home. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Beden baugh and children, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Stroud and children, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Riser and chil dren attended the Bedenbaugh reunion at Margaret Hunter park in Newberry Sunday. Everette Zetrover of Charles ton, spent last week with Jimmy Alexander. Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Foy attend ed the 'Riddle family reunion at Friendship Baptist church in Laurens county Sunday This was the first meeting of the Rid dle clan, but the group was or ganized and it was voted to make it an annual affair at the same place. The significance of the holding of the reunion at Friend ship church is that the four Rid dle brothers built the church, one of them being the great-grand father of Mrs. Foy , Miss Lettie Mitchell and Mrs Dora League of Greenville, spent several days last week with Mr and Mrs. P. B. Mitchell at their home near Clinton. The two Greenvillians are sisters of Mr. MitcheU. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Trotter and son, Dickey, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bishop and children vis ited Mr. and Mrs L. H Rhine- hart in Bateeburg Sunday. Lit tle Miss Gloria Rhinehart accom panied Mr. and Mrs., Bishop home for the week. With The Sick Little Donna Gale Cobb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Cobb, underwent a tonsilectomy on Monday at Hays hospital in Clinton. Mrs. Lila Gresham was a pa tient for treatment several days last week at Joanna hospital. Babs Handback, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Handbcak, was admitted to Joanna hospital August 25 for treatment. Miss Darlene Franklin of Kin- ards, is a patient at Joanna hos pital for treatment. G. M. Lyda underwent an ap- pendectomy on Monday at Jo anna hospital. James Dobbin*, was. a patient at Joanna hospital over the week-end for treatment. Friends of Marion Banks will regret to learn he was a patient at Joanna hospital' several days recently for treatment. Clark Surratt was admitted to Joanna hospital August 27 for treatment. Charles Barnes underwent an appendectomy on August 29 at Joanna hospital. James W. Gentry was admitted to the local hospital for treat ment on August 29. Mrs. Katherine Fuller and Mrs. Effie Motes were discharged from Joanna hospital on August 27. The occasion was Terry’s 11th birthday. The children enjoyed fishing, games, cooking the supper and roasting marshmallows. The cake for the honoree was frosted in white with blue holders and burning candles. Each guest re membered Terry with a gift. Those attending were Mrs. Curtis Salters, Don, Kathy and Sandra Salters, Mary Ann and Maxie Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Brown and the honored guest. ♦ Seniors Enjoy Picnic The seniors of Epworth Metho dist church enjoyed a picnic at Curry’s Lake Saturday evening. The group left the church at 6:30. Supper, games and swimmnig were enjoyed! Mrs. Lavinia Cool ey chaperoned the young people. Pro-Toons Enjoy Party Thursday evening the Pre- Teens enjoyed a formal party at Joanna club. This being the last meeting with the dircetor, Ralph McCaskill, the group presented him with a lovely charcoal sweater. Rose and blue frosted cake and punch were served. Back To School. Back To Church The college students will be going back to college and boys and girls will be making their way to school. Septemtxy 4 is ’’Back To Church’’ in the Joanna Baptist church. Our goal for Sunday school is 400—^Training Union 125—ovreflow crowds for the worship services. Every of ficer, tecaher and leader should attend council meeting on Wed nesday evening at 6:45. The students .were challenged for “Church Loyalty at College” by J. B. Johnsno, superintendent of the Sunday school; D. L. Bun- drick, Training Union director; and Louis Murphy, chairman of Miss Ruth Hair spoke on “The deacons. Teaching Profession." The cli max of the service was a panel discussion, “College Life,” in which the students were partici pants. ♦ Miss Hair and Mrs. Waits Honored Miss Ruth Hair and Mrs. Mil dred Waits were honored by their co-workers and close asso ciates last week. Prior to the girls’ final goodbyes the group gathered during the lunch hour and presented them with lovely gifts.- Miss Hair received a foot ed brass container and Mrs. X aits was presented with hand- me brass candle holders. Miss Hair is severing her con nection with Joanna Cotton Mills after 12 years of service. She was a member of the payroll de partment. Ruth has accepted a position on the teaching staff at junior high school in Clinton. Mrs. Waits leaves the plant after 16 years of service. She was editor of the Joanna Way and a member of the personnel department. Mrs. Waits will be a member of the Joanna schools faculty. McCaakUl Leaves Driector Ralph McCaskill fin ished his summer duties at the Joanna club house on Friday, PEPSI COLA BOTTLING CO. GraoiTlIk, S. C. August 26. The Teen-Age club enjoyed a square dance and re freshments of salted nuts, mixed candies, cookies and drinks. At the close of the evening the Teen- Agers surprised Mr. McCaskill with a v-neck turquoise sweater as a “going away’’ gift. Mrs. Wright Hfenored On Saturday night at Joanna club Mrs. Bobby Wright, recent bride, was honored with a bridal shower. Co-hostesses were Mes- dames Johnny Jenkins, Carl Garner, Ruth Seawright, Lillian Estes and Mary Seawright. Games in the bridal motif and conversation were enjoyed by the guests during the evening’s en tertainment. Placed at vantage points were lovely arrangements of late sum mer flowers with yellow pre dominating. The honoree was gowned in a sheer white dress over pink and wore a shoulder corsage of pink carnations. Refreshments of block ice cream, individual bridal cakes, mints and punch were served. Mrs. Raymond Leopard of Ninety-Six, attended the party. Mrs. Wright was presented a shower of lovely gifts. Cake Sale The nursery department of Epworth Methodist church is sponsoring a pie and cake sale Saturday, Sept. 3. The sale be gins at 2 o’clock. This is a build ing fund project. Rowe-Wright Mr. and Mrs. Roland Godrfey announce the marriage of the lat ter’s daughter, Miss Patsy Te- rease Rowe, of Columbia, and Jo anna to Mr. Bobby C. Wright of Polkton, N. C., and Columbia. The vows were spoken in a setting of white gladioli and tall burning candles at Joanna Bap tist church at 4 o’clock on Sun day, Sept. 21. Rev. James B. Mitchell, pastor of the bride, per formed the ceremony in the pres ence of close friends and rela. lives. A program of nuptial music was furnished by Miss Ethel Mae Rowe, organist, and Cousin of the bride. Jimmie Estes and Jerald Jen kins, cousins of the bride, served as ushers. The bride was lovely in a white organdy creation worn vore taffeta, featuring a fitted bodice with lace front and full skirt. Her hat was made of lace and showered with rhinestones and other accessories were white. She wore a shoulder corsage of baby blue carnations with match ing ribbon. Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s aunt and uncle, Mr^-and Mrs. Virgil Whittle on the Laurens road. Following a honeymoon trip the young couple will be at home to their friends at 121 1-2 Sims St., Columbia. Mrs. Wright attended the schools at Joanna and is a grad uate of Clinton high school in the class of 1953. She finish ed a course at Columbia Com mercial college and at present holds a position with the Palmet to Paper Co., in Columbia. I Mr. Wright is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Wright of Polkton, N. C. He is a graduate of Polk ton high school and Columbia Commercial college. He holds a position with the Dixie-Home Stores in Columbia. Out of town guests for the wedding were Mrs. T. C.
