Dessert Bridge
Given For Club
Members of her card club were
invited to the home of Mrs. John
W. Finney, Jr*, on Thursday for
• dessert bridge.
A sweet course was served
with punch, nuts and candies at
two tables appointed in the liv
ing room. Zinnias, dahlias and
roses predominated in the floral
arrangements for the home.
When scores were counted af
ter the games Mrs. J. A. Gallo
way was presented club award.
Luncheon Given
For Visitor
Honoring her sister, Mrs. Mary
White of Charlotte, Mrs. George
Brockenbrough entertained
friends at luncheon on Friday at
her lovely country home near
Clinton.
Throughout the home roses
and other summer garden flow
ers were effectively used.
Luncheon was served buffet
style from a beautifully appoint
ed luncheon table. Guests found
their places at small prettily ap-
ponited tables.

Miss Jamie Little

whose wedding to John M. Rose-
boro, will be an event of Sep

ner entertained with a miscel
laneous shower, at the home of
the former on Thursday evening.
In the reception hall and din
ing room zinnias and other bright l
colored summer flowers were
used in decoration. A lovely
mantel arrangement of deep red
and white dahlias adorned ' the
living room.
Following the contests a salad
plate, punch and individual
brides’ cakes were served, the
King-Reynolds Engagement
directed by Mrs. W. Y. Thomp
son who also assisted Mrs.
Greene in serving. <
Later in the afternoon the re
freshment table on the lawn was
appointed in a pink and white
color note and centered with a
birthday cake bearing six lighted
candles. After the singing of
“Happy Birthday” individual
cakes, ice cream, punch and can
dies were served.
Party hats, masks and favors
added to the merriment and af
terwards the colorful balloons
used in decoration were also giv
en to the little folk.
Party Compliments
September Bride-Elect
Miss Jamie Little, September
bride-elect, was complimented
with a kitchen shower on Friday
evening by Misses Lou Belle
and Josephine Nabors, Mrs. J. W.
Moore and Mrs. Hugh C. Ray at
the Nabors home.
When the guests arrived a sal
ad coursd, fancy sandwiches,
nuts, mints, decorated cakes and
punch were served buffet from
the dining table. Overlaid with
a linen cutwork cloth, the table
was lovely with a central ar
rangement of roses.
On the buffet zinnias in pastel
tints were used. In the living
room a coffee table arrangement
of roses was decorative and
lavender-pink and white dahlias
in a brass container adorned the
mantel.
Brides’ bingo was played and
the prizes were in turn present
ed to the honoree. When the
bride-elect bingoed she receiv
ed the shower of gifts.

Lt. and Mrs. Thornwell Dunlap,
of Killeen, Texas, announce the
birth of a daughter, Mafftha Con
ner, on August 30 ait the Fort
Hood hospital. Mrs. Dunlap was
before marriage Miss Martha
Harvley, of Greenwood, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Bonner Harvley.
Lt. Dunlap is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Thornwell Dunlap, of this
city.
SWITZER
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Switzer, of
Union, announce the birth of a son
on August 30. Mrs. Switzer was
before marriage Miss Toccoa Wise,
daughter of Mrs. H. M. Wise, of
this city.
FALLOW
Mr. and Mrs. Vandy E. Fallow
announce the birth of a daughter,
Debbie Lane Fallow on August 30
at Blalock clinic. Before marriage
Mrs. Fallow was Miss Mary Mae
Smith.
FRANKLIN
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marion
Franklin, of Route 1, announce
the birth of a daughter, Robbie
Jean, on August 28, at Hays hos
pital. Mrs. Franklin was formerly
Miss Phyllis Jean Ford.
CARROLL
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Carroll, of
90 Palmetto St, Lydia, announce
the birth of a son on August 30, at
Hays hospital. Mrs. Carroll is the
former Miss Minnie Johnson.
Barbecue Tickets
Sold Through Friday
Tickets for the barbecue spon
sored by the W. S. C. S. of Broad
Street Methodist church Friday,
Sept. 9, will be on sale through
tomorrow, the 2nd, members of
the arrangements committee
stated.
The Lions club will attend the 1
barbecue as their regular supper
meeting that evening but tickets |
must be purchased individually
for their wives and children.
Tables are also being reserved
for Kiwanis members and their |
families who are purchasing
tickets.
No tickets will be available
after Friday as the committee ‘
will make final plans for prepa
ration on the basis of the num
ber of tickets sold up to that
date.
Tickets may be obtained
through Friday from Mrs. J. B.
Dailey, Mrs. W. Roy Pitts, Mrs.
W. M. McMillan or Mrs. Howard
Smith.

Anchor, was vocalist for the wed
ding music when her sister. Miss
Caroline Hartsell, of Travelers
Rest, was married to Bobby Joe
McCauley at the Enoree Baptist
church, Travelers Rest, on Fri
day, August 26, in an evening cere
mony.
Mrs. McCauley is the daughter
of the Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hartsell
and Mr. McCauley is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Broadus McCauley,
all of Travelers Rest.
