People You Know Items of Interest Concerning Clinton Residents Mrs. Boyd Owens was the guest of Mrs. Etta Brookshire in Asheville, N. C., last week. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rice spent Sunday there and accompanied her home. Miss Terry Thomas is the guest of Miss Nan Long in Belmont, N. C., for a few days. Mrs. James Tinkler and chil dren, Jimmie and Jane, of Cliff- side, N. C., returned to their home yesterday after a several days visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Knox. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Pitts and daughter, Mary, of Spartanburg, visited relatives here during the past week. Mrs. Jessie Suarks is visiting relatives in Blair to be near her sister, Mrs. L. M. Blair, who is quite ill and a patient at the Winnsboro hospital. Mr. and Mrs. David Trice of Fayetteville, N. C., spent the week-end here with her mother, Mrs. Earl Workman. They were accompanied home by Linda Trice who had been visiting her grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. George Bagwell and children are guests of friends at Folly Beach this week. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brandt and daughter, Joan, have returned from a two weeks vacation trip to Bridgeton, N. J. Enroute they were also guests of friends and relatives in Washington, D. C., and Arlington, Va. Mrs. W. S. Porter and daugh ters, Misses Julia and Helen, will return tomorrow from Montreat, N. C., where they have been spending the summer months at their cottage. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Milam spent the weHc-end in Charlotte, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Odom and daughter, Lucy Ann, of Wilming ton, N. C-, will arrive Wednesday to spend several weeks with Mrs. Odom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Thomas. Miss Kay Thomas, who has been visiting in Wil mington, returned with them. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rice and Mrs. Boyd Owens have moved into their recently completed home on North Holland street. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jarvis and sons of Cohunhia, spent Sunday with Mrs. Jarvis’ mother, Mrs. Ethel Pitts. They were accom panied home for a few days visit by Mrs. Sterling Pitts, Jr., and duaghter, Barbraa. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Williams and family of Forest City, N. C., were guests last week of Mr. and Mrs, Tam Milam. Mrs. Laura Corliss of Bridge- ton, N. J., is the guest of her niece, Mrs. Fred Brandt, and Mr. Brandt. Mrs. Maggie Crawford of Pied mont, was the week-end guest of her sister, Mrs. E. L. Holland, and Mr. Holland. Mrs. J. M. Salters, Misses Leila and Elizabeth Salters of Salters, were guests of their sister and aunt, Mrs. S. G. Dillard, Mr. Dil lard and Miss Lillian Dillard on Thursday. Miss Violet Burgess of Dur ham, N.. C., spent the week-end with mother, Mrs. Joe Bur gess. Mrs. O. T. Lawing and Miss Martharene Pitts of Greer, visit ed relatives here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Chapman attended a meeting of the Forty and Eight in Greenville Monday evening. Miss Emily Parker of Aiken, was the week-end guest of Miss Florence Winn. Captain W. G. King, Jr., is at tending a reserve officers sum mer training school at Marietta, Ga. Mrs. Annie Buchanan moved this week to her new home on Davidson street. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cauley and daughter, Frankie, were guests of relatives in Whitmire on Sunday. Mrs. W. M. Lyles is visiting relatives in Greenville this week. Mias Gerry Galloway left yes terday to spend several days in Charleston and to go for the week-end to Ediato Beach as the guest of friends. Miss Nell Fuller joined her sister, Mrs. Bill Blalock and fam ily in (Jraniteville and they are spending a week’s vacation in Daytona Beach, Fla. Mrs. L. C. Watford, Jr., of Flor ence, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Burts for a few days. Mrs. J. S. Norris is spending several weeks in Charleston with her daughter, Mrs. S. V. Thoma son, and family. William Brooks Owens has re- turned from Bristol, Term., where he attended the funeral of Miss Annie Graham Ander son. Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Hart and children, Mr. and Mrs. Van Jones and children have returned from a week’s vacation trip to Daytona Beach and Clearwater, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Hart and daughters are visiting her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Ship- man, in Hendersonville, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. John Jordan and children will return today to their home in Martinsville, Va., after a visit with Mrs. Jordan's parents, Col. and Mrs. Robert E. Wysor. Mr. and Mrs. Van Jones and daughters are visiting her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Curry, in Fountain Inn. Misses Sherry Lynn of Knox ville, Term., and Martha Wheeler of Memphis, Tenn., returned to thejr home on Monday by plane ^fter a visit to Miss Jenny Payne who accompanied them to Myrtle Beach for a house party. They were joined at the beach for the week-end by Horace Payne, Jr., and Dick Gasque. Mrs. Oswald Copeland, Sr., of Newberry, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Gibson of New Zion, were guests several days last week of their sister, Mrs. W. C. .Shealy, and Mr. Shealy. On Sunday they were visitors in the mountains of North Carolina. Captain Charles C. Winn of Ft. Benning, Ga., is spending several days here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carlton F. Winn. Dr. W. Frank C as ton, lieuten ant colonel in the Air Force Re serve, is on a fifteen-day tour pf active duty for training at Don aldson Air Force Base, Green ville. Mrs. Fannie Todd of Newberry, was a recent guest of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Poole and Mrs. James McNinch. Mr. and Mrs. James C. Mar shall and daughter, Miss Betty Marshall, were guests of Mrs. Marshall’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Avery in Greens boro, N. C., several days last week. Miss Louise Tribble has re turned to her position in Atlan ta, Ga., after spending a week’s vacation with hre parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Tribble. Also here during the week-end were Dr. and Mrs. David Tribble and children of Winston-Salem, N. C., and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wills of Williamston. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Brown have returned from a vacation trip to points of interest in the Smoky mountains of North Caro lina and Tennessee. | Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Coates at tended the Westmoreland-Ham- bright wedding in Clover on Sat urday evening. Warren ahd son, Larry, spent last week va cationing at Garden City Beach and in Eastman, Ga., with the former’s brother, C. J. Warren, and Mrs. Warren. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wood and sons, Bob and Bill, spent last week with their daughter and sister, Mrs. Bailey Dixon, and Mr. Dixon. They left Sunday for a vacation trip to Florida before returning to their home in Talla dega, Ala. Certain and Mrs. Richard S. Craig and children are occupy ing the former Willie Bishop home on the Greenwood high way. Dr. and Mrs. Newton P. Jones are spending several weeks in Atlanta with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wing and the fromer’s mother, Mrs. Walter P. Jones, in Rome, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Turner and daughter, Susanne, of Decatur, Ga., spent Thursday with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Dillard enroute to West Point, N. Y., where they will visit Mr. Turner’s brother, Sgt. Donald Turner and family. The Turners will also visit in Washington and Atlantic City while away. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Holland were guests of relatives in Greenville Thursday. Mrs. W. G. King, Jr., and daughters, Christy and Jan, will return this week-end from Flor ence where they have been vis iting her mother, Mrs. Agnes Brodie. While away they were also guests of friends at Myrtle Beach. Mrs. H. E. Sturgeon has re turned home aefter spending sev eral weeks in Florence with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Sturgeon. Friends of the latter will be glad to know she is able to be out again fol lowing an operation illness Mr. and Mrs. Carl Chaney, Sam Chaney, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Chil ders of Clem son, spent the week end at Daytona Beach and other points of interest in Florida. Mrs. J. W. Abbott, Jr., and children, Johnny and Ann, re turned Tuesday to their home in Johnson City, Tenn., after a sev eral days visit with her sister. Mrs. W. L. Corbett, and Mr. Cor bett. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Bagwell had as their guests several days last week their nephew, Gordon Painter, Mrs. Painter and chil dren, Joan, Joyce and Charles, of Graham, N. C. Mrs. B. T. Fuller and Miss Nell Fuller spent Saturday in Co lumbia with their daughter, and sister, Mrs. Calvert Marsh, and also visited Mrs. W. L. Anthony at the Columbia hospital. Mrs. Wayne Johnson and chil dren returned yesterday to their home in ^Nashville, Tenn., after a week’s stay with her mother, Mrs. Jodie C. McMillan. Also here for the week-end were Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Driver Licensing Time Changed At Laurens The State Highway Depart ment will conduct driver license examinations each Tuesday and Wednesday at Laurens from 9 00 A. M. until 5:00 P. M . beginning August 22. Chief Highway Com missioner Claude R. McMillan has announced. Patrolman J F Burton will be. at the Randal Motor Company. to conduct the examination for anyone who wants to take it. In the past the examinations have been coducted on Wednesdays only.
