Lions Carnival
Well Received
The Lions club carnival, given
on Friday and Saturday nights,
was well received by those pres
ent, especially on Saturday night
when the patronage was much
greater than on Friday.
Several prizes were won by
participants, among them being
Kristy King and Hap McSween,
who won bicycles; Mrs. J. B.
Hart and Scott Hart, who won
TV sets, and Henry M. Young,
Jr„ who won a pony.
The carnival featured the us
ual booths set up for fun and
entertainment of the partici
pants.

Universe Contest
The Miss Universe contest for
Laurens county to be staged Fri
day, June *3 in Clinton is seeking
additional entries from Clinton
and the surrounding area. Girls
must be between 18-G8 years of
age and may be single or married.
There is no talent involved. The
contest will be judged on basis of
poise, personality and beauty. No
specification as to height is made.
The winner of the county con
test will have transportation fur
nished to Camden, where she will
represent Laurens county in the
State Finals July 1st. While in
Camden she will be properly chap
eroned, all expenses will be paid,)
and she will attend many social!
functions, including the big cor- j
onation ball at which a nationally-
known orchestra will appear. The;
state winner will represent South
Carolina in the universal finals
at Long Beach, California. She
will receive an all expense round
trip to Long Beach, a complete
wardrobe, and a Bulova watch.
While in' California she will
visit the Universal - International
Studios where she will meet such
stars as Jeff Chandler, Tony Cus-
tis, James Stewart, Donald O’Con
nor, Debbie Reynolds, Jane Wy
man, Rock Hudson and others.
She will also attend many social
functions, properly chaperoned.
The first three winners of the uni
versal finals will receive contracts
with the Universal-International
studios.
