Armed Forces
Day Be Observed
Here on May 21
Armed Forces Day will be
celebrated in Clinton on Satur
day. May 21, 'Dus is a nation
wide day of celebration as pro
claimed by President Eisenhow
er. The primary purpose of this
day is to give all civilians the
opportunity of visiting the va
rious military installations.
The Armor)- on South Broad
street will be the center of inter
est here. Open house will be
held from 10:00 a. m to 4:00 p.
m. on Saturday. Battery B of
the 107th AAA Battalion will
have the majority of its equip
ment displayed with military
personnel available as guides.
Vehicles, weapons, kitchen
equipment, etc., will be display
ed for inspection by all visitors.
A new model medium tank
has been requested, and if avail
able, will be accompanied by a
trained tank crew. It will be
possible for visitors to enter the
tank and the tank crew will

announced at a later date.

Methodist Women
Hold Annual
Meet In Greenwood
Greenwood, May 7. — Main
Street Methodist church will be
host to the annual meeting of the
South Carolina Conference, Wom
an’s Society of Christian Service,
May 11, 12, 13.
Registrations for delegates and
visitors begins Thursday at 9 a.m.
The annual meeting will be called
to order at 10 am. by the presi
dent, Mrs. Niles C. Clark of Water
loo. Other sessions on Thursday,
begin at 2 p. m. and at 8 p. m.
The session Friday will begin at
10 a. m. and continue until the ad
journment of the annual meeting
at 1 p. m.
Speaker at the Thursday night
session will be Bishop Costen J.
Harrell of Charlotte, resident bish
op of the South Carolina and West
ern North Carolina Conferences.
In keeping with the emphasis on
youth in the Methodist Church
during this quadrennium, Bishop
Harrell will bring a message to
youth.
Mrs. E. U. Robinson of Gallatin,
Tenn., president of the southeast
ern jurisdiction. Woman’s Society
of Christian Service, nad the only
woman to be an accepted supply
pastor in the Tennessee Confer
ence will be the inspirational
speaker for the noon hour Thurs
day.
Other features of the program
will include the president’s mes
sage, reports of the conference of
ficers, representatives of the proj
ects of the Woman's Division with
in South Carolina, presentation 1
missionaries, deaconesses and
other distinguished guests. A me
morial service for thise who have
died during the year will be held.
The meeting will close with the
dbservance of the Lord’s Supper.
The annual communion offering
will, this year, be given toward a
supplementary gift needed to sup
port a rural worker in South Car
olina, a field of work to be initiat
ed in South Carolina under the
Woman’s Division.
Greenwood. Columbia, and Sum
ter Districts are hostesses for the
meeting.
