stating that all the pine tree seed
lings for this planting season have
been taken, and no more orders
will -be accepted. Orders for trees
for this tell planting may be placed
after July 1. County agents’ office,
S. C. S. office and agricultural
teachers will have application
blanks for taking tree orders.
Freight Reduction Extended
Freight rate reduction by rail
roads on shipment of hay under
the drought program has been ex
tended until February 13.
Farmers who are in need of hay
for feeding should see that orders
placed in time to take advantage
of freight reduction.
All applications for hay or grain
are to be approved by the Farm
Home Administration office before
Livestock Producers To
Hear Dr. Carter
Laurens county livestock pro
ducers are to meet January 27 at
7:30 p. m. in the Agricultural
building to hear Dr. R. W. Carter,
director, State-Federal Livestock
Disease Eradication program, Co
lumbia. lie will talk on State Bangs
control program and calf hood vac
cination.
The meeting will be the first
meeting of a series of three to be
held. On February 8 at the same
hour and place, the annuel meet
ing of the Laurens Coopperattve
Artificial Breeding association will
be held. C. C. Brannon, associate
professor of dairying of Ciemson
college, will be the speaker. He
will discuss the bull stud pro
gram being conducted by Ciem
son College Dairy department.

can be accepted.
There has been, as of January
20, 23 applications filed with the
Farm Home Administration office
requesting 3,430,260 pounds of
grain of which 2,4(69,7(20 pounds
were approved by the committee.

The third meeting will be held

place with Dr. W. A. King, profes
sor of dairying, Ciemson college,
speaking on silage production and
storage of silage. This subject will
be of much interest to both dairy
men and beef cattle nroduoers.
Attend Five-Acre Cotton Meeting
Furman Garrett, Jr., Laurens,
Rt. , and 'Mack George, Laurens,
Rt. 3, a student ait Ciemson col
lege, have been selected county
winners in the 1954 five-acre cot
ton contest, according to S. A.
Williams, Extension Cotton Spe
cialist, who is in charge of the
program. A luncheon will be held
in Columbia at noon January 23
at which time the state five-acre
cotton awards will be made. L. H.
Taylor, manager of the Laurens
Southern Cotton Oil company, and
the county agent are to attend the
luncheon with the winners.
The Cotton Seed Crushers Asso
ciation provides money for the
county awards in hte State Five-
Acre cotton contest.
Ayshire State Association
To Meet
All Ayrshire breeders are in
vited to attend the Ayrshire State
association meeting in (he Agri
cultural building, Laurens St.,
Laurens, January 2 at 1:00 p. m.
Arthur Baumberger, Laurens, Rt.
3, is president of the association.
Alex Simpson, Cross Hill, vice
president, and Wayne McGee,
Starr, is secretary and treasurer.
This will be (he first annual
meeting held since the organiza
tion last fall. Mr. Denny, field
representative of the National Ayr
shire association will be present

License Is Sought
Columbia, Jan. 25 — A state- ]
wide fishing license without ad-|l
ditional special permits for cer
tain lakes would be instituted un
der a bill the House Agriculture
Committee is planning.
The committee agreed today to
introduce a bill for a $3.10 state
wide license good anywhere and
required of all fishermen.
San tee-Cooper, Lake Green
wood and various other lakes in
the state now require special per
mits in addition to a state license.
These would be abolished.
Money accumulated and un
spent from the permit sales
would be turned into the General
state fund.
