Thornwell Wins
Upper State
Championship
Thornwell orphanage high
school football team defeated
Heath Springs high school Fri
day night at;Heath Springs 2-0
for the upper stale Class C cham
pionship.
The two teams were tied 0-0 at
the end of the regulation game.
If in playing for a championship
the two competing teams are
tied at the end of the regular
game, they must use the Mon
tana System as the way of decid
ing a winner The ball is placed
on the fifty-yard line and each pionship Thanksgiving week-
team is given five plays each.
Each team has one play at a tiihe
or they alternate plays until each
team has put the ball in play
five times each. Heath Springs
chose the first play, thereby giv
ing Thornwell the right to the
last play. When the last play
had been run Thornwell had the
ball on Heath Springs’ 45-yard
line, so thornwell gained five
more yards than Heath Springs
in their series of five downs.
Any winner of a Montana play
off is given two points to none
for the opponents.
Thornwell gained 265 yards fo
Heath Springs’ 148 yards.
Thornwell had two touch
downs nullified. On the first play
of the game. Kenneth Mershow
ran 75 yards for a touchdown
and a penalty nullified the play.
Then in the fourth quarter Den
nis Bennett caught a 35-yard
pass in the end zone from Benji
Timmons, and a penalty cost
Thornwell their second touch
down. The entire team played
outstanding ball.
Thomwgll will play the winner
of the Norway-St. Stephen game

Clinton high was defeated by
their rvial, the Laurens high Tig
ers, by a 14-7 victory on the Lau
rens high football field, last Fri
day night.
In the first period neither team
was able to score, but Clinton
threatened as they drove deep in
to Laurens terr itony only to be
stopped on the Laurens 17.
Linesman Harold Simmons re
covered a fumble in the second
quarter on Laurens 45-yard line
to set up a touchdown for Clinton.
On the next play Martin Gwinn
dasHed 45 yards to score. Bob
.Franks kicked the extra point to
put Clinton in the lead 7-0.
' The Tigers came back in the
•same quarter and drove* 58 yards
| for a touchdown with King Dixon
! going over from the one-yard line.
1 Sullivan kicked .the extra point
and the game was tied up 7-7
through the third quarter.
Laurens took the final score in
the last two minutes of the game.
Dixon went over from the three-
yard line, after an 85-yard drive,
and the game ended 14-7 in Lau
rens favor.

the patient’s stay, which averag

be admitted the patient must be
sober, must sign his own applica
tion, come of his own free will,
have a sincere desire to stop
drinking, and agree to stay until
dismissed by the staff.
Q. We have a sister who is an
alcoholic and she refuses to go
anywhere for help. We are think
ing about the state hospital and
wonder if you would recommend
that she be sent there?
A. We have just reason to be
proud of our state hospital Like
most such institutions they are
under-staffed and urgently need
more doctors. However, our
state institution ranks well above
similar institutions in other
states. However, though the av
erage alcoholic population at the
state hospital may be 25 or more
out of some S’,000 patients, the
hospital, has no specific program
for alcoholics and though in some

and black.
Interiors of the 1955 Oldsmo-
biles are tastefully appointed and
beautfiully upholstered in attrac
tive fabrics or leather. Forty-
seven different upholstery selec
tions are offered in Oldsmobile’s
three lines of 1955 cars. The “98”
deluxe Holiday coupe has seats
finished in genuine top grain
leather set off by nylon pattern
cloth. Six color selections in
leather harmonizing with the ny-
4on cloth are available. An all
leather uphelstered version can be
obtained at extra cost. In the "98”
four-door sedan, both covert cloth
and nylon pattern cloth are util
ized and are offered In light gray,
green or blue to harmonize with
the exterior color.
Genuine leather provides a rich
appearance for the Starfire and
Super “88” convertible interiors.
Two-tone dimpled top grain lea
ther features the Starfire, combin
ing ivory with red, coral, light
. The stand-outs for Clinton were, in the genius class, just as you
cases the patient may be helped,' green, light blue, turquoise. Sol-
we should bear in mind that the '
alcoholic is not insane or men
tally ill. He may be mentally
confused, but if he is psychotic,
is a separate afffliction from the
alcoholism. In other words, an
individual may have both mental
illness and alcoholism, but the
two afflictions are not necessarily
related. Out state mental hos
pital is designed to help the men
tally ill, and does a good job with
the little money they are given
to work with. Your family phy
sician should be able to deter
mine if your sister is mentally
ill. If so. she should be sent to
a mental hospital. If not, by all
means, no.
Q. Is it true that alcoholics
have higher intelligence than
non-alcoholics?
A. There is no such thing as an
alcoholic personality. Alcoholics
are people and will include mo
rons, idiots, imbeciles, and these

OREYHOUN
When some of his compatriots
were fearfully hesitating to sign
the Declaration of Independence
Benjamin Franklin told them,
We must all hang together, or
assuredly we sha’I all hang sep
arately.”
Upon his election a United
States senator was asked wheth
er he would vote as a Democrat
or a Republican, and he replied,
“I am first an American. I will
support the best that each party
has to offer for the good of the
country.”
The recent elections gave a
delicate balance of political con
trol in the Congress. There is talk
of a stalemate between a Repub
lican President and a Democratic
Congress. That will come only
when politics is placed above pa
triotism.
The United States today can
not afford "a cold war of partisan
politics” between the White
House and the Capitol. (The
] quoted expression has been ac
credited to some Republican
campaign orators). On Novem
ber second the voters gave voice
, to their opinion that neither
$ 8-201 D emocra t s nor Rpublicans have
any monopoly on love of coun
try. . _
Our nation faces grave prob
lems in the fields of national de
fense and of foreign relations. A
single false step prompted to pro
mote political partianship could
well prove fatal to any prospect
for peace or the continued wel
fare of the country.
Senator Lyndon B. Johnson of
Texas, who may become majority
leader of the Senate, had a happy
a , suggestion when he quoted the
* prophet Isaiah, “Come now, and
i let us reason together.”
will find all these among non
alcoholics.
Q. What is meant ‘by the ex
pression, “Out of control drink
er?”
A. This term is applied to the
alcoholic, and indicates that the
almoholic differs from the non
alcoholic in at least two ways.
L. He has little or no control over
WHEN he will take a drink. 2.
He has no control over HOW
MUCH he will drink. The non
alcoholic can control both of
these factors. The alcoholic can
not control either of them.

New Oldsmobile
To Be Shown
Here Friday
The new 1955 Oldsmoblie mod
els will be introduced to the pub
lic Friday, November 19. They
will be on display here by Tim
merman Motor company, county
distributors for the noted car.
Flying colors will be the rule
with the 1955 Oldsmobile models
to make their appearance. The
special two-tone color styling first
introduced to the industry by
Oldsmobile in 1954 is even more
widely applied on the 1955 cars,
according to G. R. Jones, Olds
mobile general sales manager.
“Oldsmobile stylists have creat
ed an unusually distinctive appli
cation of body color in the 1955
models,” Jnoes asserted. “Bright,
attractive colors are utilized in
striking fashion to enhance Olds
mobile’s low silhouette appear
ance. Contrasting or complimen
tary colors are used advantag
eously in two-tone styling that
creates a luxurious effect of cus
tom design.”
The stainless steel side mould
ing on the 1955 Oldsmobiles is
used for the color separation on
all three series—“888”, Super
“88” and *‘98”. Upper front fend
ers, door panel and roof are paint
ed one color, 'while the lower body
and rear deck are finished in an
other color in the Holiday and
two-door sedan models. The color
treatment is different for the four-
door sedans, with the hood and
upper body back to the rear door
painted one color and the roof,
rear deck and lower body in an
other color.*
Fourteen new body colors are
introduced by Oldsmobile in 1955
out of a total offering of 19 col
ors. The new colors include such
eye-catching shades as coral,
chartreuse, mint green, bronze
metallic and shell beige. Other at
tractive new hues: Burlingame
'red, grove green, frost blue, Cas
pian cream, regal marono, twilight
blue, glen green, Panama blue and
Bimini blue. Popular holdovers
from 1954 are turquoise, mist gray,
poplar white, Juneau gray and
black.
A grand total of 89 two-tone
color schemes are offered in con
ventional top and body variations.
These are standard in the Super
