Lanford and Johnny and Mrs. Sam Prince and daughters were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ashbury Stone in In man Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Mc Lendon of Greenwood, spent Sunday with C. J. Blackwell and Mrs. Virginia Wilson. Cpl. Marvin Hamilton of Fort Benning, Ga., spent the week end with Mrs. Hamilton. Mrs. Corrie B. Cogburn and Mrs. Farrie Bryan of Green wood, visited Rev. and Mrs. Jas. Bryan during the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. James Mercer of Gastonia, N. C., were week-end games and contests Mrs. Cecil McLendon invited the guests into the dining room where re- fershments were served from a lace-covered buffet table which was centered with an arrange ment of yellow and white gladi oli. Mrs. Dawkins was presented with many lovely gifts including several pieces of china in her chosen pattern. Mrss Doris McDonald, bride- elect of August, was remember ed with a gift of crystal. Joint Air Forca James Fuller has joined the U. S. Air Force and is now at Lack- land Air Base, San Antonio, Tex as, where he is taking basic training. , Birthday Dinnor Enjoyed Mrs. R. G. Johnson honored Mr. Johnson with a birthday dinner ''Sunday at their home. Those enjoying the occasion with Mr. Johnson were the fol- ments were served by the teach er, Mrs. Tommy Nabors. Focus Weak Obtarrod The Intermediate Girls’ Aux iliary has completed a week of activities in observance of Focus week. On Friday evening the group enjoyed a pajama party at the home of the counselor, Mrs. L. L. Leach. Troop 90 Boy Scouts at Camp Scoutmaster George Fleming and the scouts of troop 90 at Ly dia are spending the week Boy Scout camp at Camp Old In dian. The scouts at Camp are; Delano Wilson, Mickey Thomas, Billy Pace, Ronald Corley, Her man Burdette, Kenneth Tram mell Tony Abercrombie, Rock Bailey, Mack Gaffney, Ronald Atkinson and Gary Sprouse. With The Sick Little Leland Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nelson, has entered the Shriner’s hospital in Annie Mae Reid remained for a guests of Mr .and Mrs. Leroy longer visit Davis. Mrs. J. C. Meeks and children Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Cobb and visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. j children of Charlotte, ft. C., vis- J. H. Holmes, in Cross Anchor Sunday. Mu. Me*. Josh Motte, Mr. and Mrs. John Motte visited the Mr. Motte’s sister, in Seneca, who is seriously ill in the Oconee county hospital, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Carson Neal and Dianne have returned home after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Norwood in Chillicothe, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. James Mundy at tended a birthday dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Fuller at Mt. Pleasant Sunday. Mr. Fuller was celebrating his birth day. Mrs. J. W. Local National Guard at Camp Among the National Guards- rffen from Lydia attending the annual two weeks summer en campment training period at Camp Stewart, Ga., are Edward Carroll, Jimmy Carroll, Lindy Barlowe, Ronnie Pace, Jimmy South, Claude McElehannon, Guy McElhannon, Millard Phipps, Bud Phipps, Bobby Rich ie, Jimmy Gregory, Doyle and Wayne Templeton. Woman's Club Picnic Tonight The Lydia Woman’s club will have the annual family picnic today at Stomp Springs picnic grounds. The bus will leave the Community building at 6 p. m. Coronation Service Held Sunday evening at the Lydia Baptist church a Girls’ Auxiliary Coronation was held in a beauti ful candlelight setting. The L&urch was beautiful with its decorations of ivy, magnolia, floor' baskets of white gladioli and two seven-branched candel abra. Candles were also placed at other points in the auditorium. The welcome was given by the pastor, Rev. Stanley Hardee, Jr. Mrs. L. L. Leach gave the intro duction on “What Girls’ Auxili ary Is.” The scripture was giv en by Judy Morton. A solo, “My Task,” was sung by Mrs. Stan ley Hardee, Jr. Mrs. Clyde Tram mell was director, with Mrs. E. C. Burdette giving the charge to the maidens, Ladiesin-Waiting, and the Princess.* Miss Imogene Jackson gave charges to the Queen and Queen with Scepter also presenting the Croyrn and Scepter. % The organist was Miss Cather ine Dunaway. The GA’s and their counselors were lovely in their floor-length dresses. Each GA carried a white Bible topped with a white carnation and green and yellow streamers. The Maidens were Linda Sat terfield, Linda Corley, Florence Revis, Harriett Wilson, Cecilia McLendon, Sandra Mills, and Di anne Davenport. The Ladies-in- Waiting were Emily Bennett and Elizabeth Abercrombie. The Princess was Janice Davenport. The Queen, Carolyn Bennett, and the Queen with Scepter, Joanne Leach. The Crown Bearer was Dale Jackson, and the Scepter Bear er was Dianne Abercrombie. Jan Harvey and... Mickle O’Shields, Intermediate GA’s, lighted the candles. The ushers were Junior GA’s: Betty Ann Blackstock, Gail White, Elaine Harvey and Judy Ellis. Mrs. Burdette and Mrs. Tram mell are the junior counselors. Mrs. Leach and Miss Jackson are Intermediate counselors. Young People’s director is Mrs. Hardee and Mrs. Houston Ellis is presi dent of the Woman’s Missionary Society Following the coronation *a re ception was’ given for the GA’s with the WMS as hostess in the social hall of the church. Training Union Groups Have Socials Thursday evening the Young Adult Training Union class of the Lydia Baptist church enjoyed a fish and chicken supper at Blazer’s fish camp on Lake Greenwood. • • 2 On Friday the Adult Union en joyed a watermelon slicing at the Lydia cook-out. ? ♦ Girls' Class Has Party Monday afternoon the 9-year- old junior girls’ Sunday school class held a party at the Baptist church. The group enjoyed sev eral games, after which refresh- lowing, Mr. and Mrs. Walter | Greenville for several weeks treatment. Peggy Grady is improving from a face injury received when struck by a foul ball Friday eve ning at a ball game. Mrs. Jessie Abercrombie un derwent surgery at Hays hos pital Monday. Mrs. Mart Satterfield and Mrs. Melvin Satterfield are able to be out after being ill. Mrs. John Bagwell is a patient at the Blalock clinic due to in juries received in a fall Brenda Austin is suffering from a broken arm injury. Friends will regret to know Sam Neal is a patient at the Anderson hospital following sur gery on Monday. He is the father of J. B. and Carson Neal. Birthdays and Anniversaries Mrs. R. E. Whitmire celebrated her birthday July 22. J. T. Hlmilton ceieorated a birthday July 13, and Mrs. Ham ilton will observe her birthday July 29. R. G. Johnson celebrated a 23 ; Brenda Austin was 9 years old July 24. Rev. Stanley Hardee, Jr., and J. B. Abercrombie will have birthdays July 30. Mrs. Tommy Yarborough cele brated a birthday July 21.
