Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Beden- baugh and daughters, Linda and Brenda, visited Mr. and Mrs. John Bedenbaugh in Batesburg Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Jacks and daughter, Shelia, Deri Jacks and sons, Johnny and Wayne, enjoy ed, a picnic at Lake Greenwood on Sunday. The group was join ed by Mr. and Mrs W. H. Mc- Cary and son, Billy, of Green wood. Smith of Charles ton, spent the week-end with her sister, Min Kiltie Mae Mose ley. Mrs. Annie L Simpson was the week-end guest of Miss Sal- lie Mae Franklin in Whitmire. Melvin and Bobby Franzen of Cleon son, will arrive home on Friday for the summer months. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Templeton and Gail of Calhoun Falls, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. O’Dell. Mrs. Templeton and Gail remained for a visit of several days. Mr. and Mrs. Truman Trotter of Saluda, were Saturday supper workers are: Director, H. will consist of earning scout badges, crafts and waste baskets, costume jewelry, fiberwood flowers, softball games, swim ming in private lake. Vacation Church School at Epworth Registration for vacation Church school at Epworth church will begin Friday, June 5, at 4 o’clock in the department class rooms. Camp Buck horn at Paris mremtalr The group will Th* Vote For TERRY for MAYOR ON HIS RECORD Having served you as Mayor for the past four years aad asking for your support for another term, I want to give you some facts and figures that you as citizens and taxpayers of the Town of Clinton should know. When I first announced for Mayor in 1950, I promised to make you a good Mayor and to work for the best interests of the Town always and to seek the cooperation of every person interested in the welfare of CUnton. This promise I have kept. 1 have, to the best of my knowledge, cooperated with the Town Council in conducting the affairs of the Town on a sound and business basis. DUR ING MY ADMINISTRATION WE HAVE NOT FOUND IT NECESSARY TO BORROW ANY MONEY WHATSOEVER TO CARRY ON THE OP ERATION OF THE TOWN OF CUNTON. During this time we have met all payments of Bonds and Interest when due and have discounted all bill^ for operating expenses where discounts were allowed and have paid all bills on times. Referring to the Bonded Indebtedness of the Town, of Clinton, 1 would like to state that the only Bonds issued since I assumed Office as Mayor, are Bonds which were voted on by the Citizens of Clinton and approved by the Council prior to September 1,1950, the date I became Mayor, and these were issued to pay for Street Improvements which wqge in progress when I assumed office. At this point I would like to clear up false rumors that the Bonds issued for the Ciinton-Newberry Natural Gas Authority, are a debt of the Town of Clinton and that 1 have placed the Town of Clinton in an embarrassing financial position. I quote below from the resolution au thorizing thsse Bonds: “Section 10: Neither the faith and credit of the State of South Carolina nor of the municipalities of Clinton or Newberry, shall be pledged for the payment of principal or interest of the BONDS, sad there shall be on the face of each BOND a statement, plainly worded, to the effect. Neither shall the members of the AUTHOR ITY, nor any persons who are required by the provisions of this Resolution to sign the BONDS, be personally liable thereon.’’ In February 1952, the South Carolina Legislature passed an ACT creat ing the Ciinton-Newberry Natural Gas Authority aad authorized this Authority to issue BONDS for the purpose of installing a Natural Gas System to serve the Towns of Clinton and Newberry and surrounding ter ritory. The Resolution, as quoted above, is contained in this ACT of the Legislature which went into effect February 29,1952, pages 5 aad 5 of the ACT. This ACTis contained in the Acts of the General Assembly for 1952 and a copy of this particular ACT may be seen in the Mayor's office. ♦ \ Since I have been Mayor we have been able to reduce the floating in debtedness of the Town of Clinton from $53,400.00 to $30,000.00. THIS IS THE SMALLEST AMOUNT OWED BY THE TOWN OF CUNTON IN THE PAST 25 YEARS. I have worked with and helped secure the aid of the County Delegation and the State Highway Department in getting a number of Streets Sur faced by both the County Supervisor and the State Highway Department. We were also successful in getting the Supervisor to pave the Sidewalks at all of the Public Schools in Clinton, this at no cost to the Town. 1 was instrumental ia securing the services of an Engineering Firm to make a survey and plans for the development of both the Electric Light and Water Systems of the Town of Clinton, and to keep up with the growth and to provide plans for the future development of these Utilities. This sur vey is now in progress. I recommended to Council that the entire proceeds from the parking meters, less the cost of maintenance, be turned over to the Recreation Com mission for expanding the fine work being done for our children. Immediately after the completion of the September 1, 1952 Audit and upon the recommendation of Mr. McGowan, the Auditor. I appointed a committee from Council to investigate and make recommendations for im proving the working conditions in the City Administrative Offices. These improvements have been made with the approval of the entire Council. . During my administration the Total assets of the Town of Clinton have increased by $296,181.27. We have made extensions to the Water System amounting to $20,243.76; to the Electric Light System amounting to $61,- 357.45, and to the Sewer System amounting to $11,243.79, a total of $92,- 845.00, ail of which were paid for out of the current funds of the Tows. In addition to these we have added to the equpiment of the City as follows: to the Light and Water Department $6,033.19, to the Billing and other equipment in the Office $6,297.82, to the Street Department includ ing replacements, $15,972.13 and to the Police Department $7,743.08 which deluded the addition of new jail facilities to provide for the separation of women and juvenile cases. In addition to these we have made other im provements at the City Hall amounting to over $4,000.00, all of this was done out of revenues AND NOT ONE PENNY WAS BORROWED. These figures can he verified from Audits covering this period. In view of the splendid progress made by the Town of Clinton during my administration, as shown by the facts stated above, and with only one purpose in mind, that of helping to make CUnton a better place ia which to ttve, I sincerely solicit your vote and support in returning me to the Office of Mayor June 8.
