required along with others
throughout the state to take a
driver’s examination before their
licenses are restored if their rec
ords indicate they are unable to
operate a vehicle safely, Chief
Highway Commissioner Claude
R. McMillan has announced. '
Mr. McMillan explained that;
this procedure is in line with the
driver improvement program
under which the point system
was inaugurated. It assures that
unfit drivers whose licenses are
suspended for traffic law viola
tions and aeciderfta will be taken
from the highways. Each driver
is being given a Driver’s Hand-J
book and a point system leaflet
at the time of the interview and
advised to study each carefully.
For the time being drivers
placed on probation will not be
required to take a re-examina
tion. The interviewing officer,
however, will satisfy himself
that the driver has sufficient
knowledge of the “rules of the
road” and is sufficiently skilled
in driving techniques to safely
operate a motor vehicle.' Other
wise he would be expected to
recommend suspension of license
when the driver has accumulat-i
ed ten points.
A driver is called for an inter-1
view upon the accumulation of
ten points. Following an inter
view, he may be placed on pro
bation. Upon accumulation of
more than ten points suspension
is mandatory.
