Lunpheon Honors Miss Mary Ann Craig Miss Mary Ann Craig, bride- elect, was guest of honor Wed nesday at a luncheon given by Mrs. J. F. Jacobs and Mrs. W. R. Turner at the home of the for mer. The dining table was covered with a cutwork lace cloth and centered with a silver epergne 4 filled with roses and other spring flowers. Elsewhere, mix ed arrangements of azaleas, gladioli, narcissus, and jonquils were used. Guests found their places at small tables, centered with sweetheart roses. The honoree was presented a decorated tray. Radio, TV Program For Century Club The April meeting of the Cen tury club was held Tuesday af ternoon at the home of Mrs. John Spratt. Mrs. Frank Boland, Sr., pro gram leader for the afternoon, continued the study of “Twen- tienth Century Cavalcade of Progress,” giving an interesting paper on radio and television. Ballard gave the program, entit led “Who Are The Guilty? ’ An interesting account of the modem prison system in this country. Mrs. Lewis Pitts then told of the goals set for the so ciety during the year and results of efforts of the local society to reach these goals. She also an nounced a Zone Training School for officers to be held at St. James church In Laurens, May 7, at 3:30 p. m. District officers will be there to instruct local of ficers in their duties. The nomi nating committee presented names of officers for the coming year and these were elected and will be installed later. Bridge Clubs, Parties This Week Mrs. Francis Blalock was hoet- ess*to members of her bridge club Thursday afternoon with two tables in play. At the conclusion of the pro gressions Mrs. B. B. Ballard was presented club award. Later a salad course, cake squares and iced drinks were served. Talisman roses and wygelia were used in the living room and a centerpiece of yellow was fashioned of iris and other spring flowers for the dining room ta ble. • • • . * A dessert bridge was given Thursday afternoon by Mrs. D. O. Rhame for members of her card club. Two tables were appointed for refreshments and when the guests arrived a sweet course was served. Top honor was won by Mrs. Thomwell Dunlap. Bowls of roses and iris dec orated the hostess’ home for the meeting. CLINTON AND JOANNA To Lutheran Women The April meeting • of the Woman’s Missionary Society of St. John’s Lutheran church was held at the home of Mrs. Robert Powell, with seventeen members in attendance. Mrs. Rhett P. Adair, program chairman, and the pastor. Rev. J. Marion Rhoden, presented the program on “Why I Am A Luth eran.” During a social hour following the program the hostess served a refreshment course. Methodist WSCS Study Course The Woman’s Society of Chris tian Service of Broad Street Methodist church will hold the last two classes of the study course, “Life -[and Tasks of Churches Around the World,” taught by Mrs. Lavinia Cooley of Joanna, on the evenings of April 27th and 29th at 7:30. Ball-Boyd Engagement Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Ball of Neptune Beach, Fla., announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Miss Margo Frances Ball, to Alvert Lewis Boyd, U. S. Coast Guard, son of Mrs. Elberta Boyd and the late John H. Boyd of this city. The wedding will take place the first week in June in New York City. Mias Ball is a graduate of Fletcher^ high school and of Grace Dawn’s Airline School in New York. Mr. Boyd is officer in charge of the light station in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, where the couple will reside af ter their marriage. Blue Bird Groups Easter Egg Hunt The Tulip and Violet groups of Bluebirds met jointly Thurs day afternoon at the American Legion Home for an egg hunt. Mrs. B. H. Boyd, Tulip fcader, and Mrs. Thomas Jacobs, Violet leader, end their assistants, Mrs. Roy Gasque and Mrs. Ed Camp bell, directed the games which followed the egg hunt, Betsy Finney and Mary Jane Jacobs won prizes for finding the most eggs. Later ice cream, punch and cup cakes decorated with* marshmallow Easter bunnies, wereaerved: Garden Clubs Have Exhibits at Library For the month of April the Carolina Wren Garden club has charge of the garden center ex hibit at the city and Presbyte rian college library. The garden clubs in the city alternate in furnishing floral ar rangements for the center which also contains horticultural ex hibits and bulletins and pam phlets of interest. Last week Mrs. G. E. Tumblin, assisted by Miss Ruth Bailey, displayed outstanding iris from the former’s garden. Mrs. David Roberts, Miss Mar garet Blakely and Mrs. M. L. Poole are in charge of the cen ter this week. Kitchen Shower Fetes Bride-Elect Miss Elizabeth Nicholson, May bride-elect, was feted with a kitchen shower on Friday eve ning when Miss Monnie Miller and Mrs. Roy Miller entertained at the home of the former. Spring flowers were beautiful ly arrayed in the receiving rooms of the home. In the din ing room an Easter motif was carried out, the table being cen tered with a large bunny and colored eggs painted and dress ed to resemble couples. At eith er end were noeegaya with rib bon streamers in die chosen pink and green motif. Refreshments of salad, sandwiches, cookies and punch were served buffet. The honoree was presented a shower of kitchen articles and a gift of linen from the hostesses. Assisting in serving and enter taining were Mrs. Jim Wade Miller and Mrs. Lucius Burns. Birth Announcements McMURRAY Mr. and Mrs. Bill McMurray of Swannanoa, N. C., announce the . birth of a daughter, Mary Katherine, on April 14, at Mis sion hospital, Asheville, N. C. Mrs. McMurray is the* former Miss Mary Loftis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Loftis. They have two sons, Billy and Bobby. Tty ° r . shields stud Mrs. Davis R. Holland enter tained members of her bridge club Thursday afternoon. A variety of colorful garden flowers were arranged m dec oration in the card rooms, where the tables were laid for a dessert course. Score prizes for the afternoon games went to Mrs. G. B. Gold smith and Mrs. Lewis Wallace.^ # t # Mrs. Gary Lehn and Mrs. Geo. Frady entertained a number of friends at bridge Tuesday af ternoon at the Lehn home. Iris and azaleas were prettily combined in the living room and bouquets of iris and hydran geas adorned the dining room. Mrs. Francis Blalock was pre sented high score prize and con solation went to Mrs. Joe Mc Gee. When cards were laid aside the hostesses served a salad plate. • • • Entertaining members of her club and additional guests, Mrs. Frank Ramage gave a bridge party on Tuesday afternoon of the past week at the home of her mother, Mrs. John Griffin Pitts. Throughout the card rooms, iris, tulips and spirea added at tractiveness. When scores *erc counted awards went to Mrs. Alec Cruickshanks for visitors high score and to Mrs. Harry Baldwin for club high. CO. 74 Mrs. John Stone underwent a tonsilectomy at Hays hospital Tuesday. Friends of Mrs. Annie Coates will be inteersted to know she is a patient at Hays hospital. Patients at Hays hospital in clude Charles Samples, Mrs. Ma rion Lawson, who underwent an operation Tuesday, Mrs. Joan Suttles, Mrs. James Bennett of Sedalia and Earl.Crapps of Kin- ards. Buck Reece, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fuller Reece, underwent a tonsilectomy last week at the Blalock clink. Mrs. Frank Nelson has return ed to her home from the Blalock clinic where she was a patient several days. L. L. Herring and Charles Ray, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Ray, are patients at the Blalock clinic. Friends of Mrs. J. K. Hatton will be interested to know she is a patient at Hays hospital Ame Lou and Betty Black, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Black, underwent tonsilectomies at the Blalock clinic last week. WOOLBRIGHT Rev. and Mrs. T. A. Wool- bright of Iva, formerly of Cross Hill, announce the birth of a son, Michael Eugene, on April 15, at Hays hospita^. Mrs. Woolbright was before marriage Miss Lila Sutherland. SIMMONS Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Simmons announce the birth of a son on April 21 at Hays hospital. Mrs Simmons is the former Miss Doris Long.
