Annual Christmas Party
The Aowakiya group of Camp
Fire Girls entertained a number of
friends at the Community center
Monday night with their Christmas
party. Attractive season decora
tions were used and gifts w f ere ex
changed from a well-lighted tree.
The singing of Christmas songs,
games and dancing were enjoyed
throughout the evening. A buffet
supper was served the twenty-fouV
guests. , *
Cub Scouts Entertained
The leaders of the Cub Scouts,
George Fleming, cubmastrer, ami
Mrs. lone Wallace, den mother, en
tertained the cubs at a Christmas
party Friday afternoon in the Com
munity center. They were assisted
by Mrs. Fleming in serving sand
wiches and drinks.
Teen-Age Christmas Party
The Teen-Age Canteen met Fri
day night in the recreation room of
Providence school for a Christmas
party. The room was decorated in
the holiday colors. Santa’s rein
deer in white and silver pranced
across the piano. A mutitude of
I colored lights sparkled from tjie
Christmas tree.
The table was laid w ith a red
cloth, one end held an arrangement
| of graduated length of red candles
i imbedded in many-colored Christ-
! mas balls. As a balance for the de-
; sign a large punch bowl was used
on the other end. The bowl was on
a pedestal which held a string of
Christmas lights with a shield of
crushed green cellophane.
Mrs. Wallace led the group in
s.nging several Christmas songs.
Square dancing, round dancing and
folk dancing was enjoyed. Santa
appeared and passed out gifts from
the tree. Refreshments with punch
were served by Mrs. Addison Neigh*
bors, Mrs. Wallace, Mrs. Ray Full
er, Mrs. Burl Allen and George
Fleming. Sixty boys and girls
were present.

Woman's Club Meets
The Lydia Woman's club held its
regular meeting Thursday night at
the Community center. In the ab-
1 stnce of the president, Mrs. R. E.
Whitmire, vice-president, presided.
Mrs. E. C. Burdette read the'
Christmas story from Isaiah and
Luke. Mrs. Earl Hamrick, chair
man of the nominating committee,
gave her report, and the following
officers for next year were elected:
President, Mrs. Floyd Poole; Vice-
President, Mrs. Charles Gaffney;
Seretary, Mrs. Joe Corley; Treasur
er, Mrs. Claude Sims; and Program
Director, Miss Mary Johnson. Miss
: Margaret Blakely and Mrs. Wal
lace are advisors for the club.
The names of the Lydia Sisters
were revealed and gifts exchanged.
The hostess committee served
fruit cake and coffee.

Horace Carroll is a patient at
Self •Memorial hospital in Green
wood.
Little Yvete King, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Chestley King, is ill.
Tony and Danny Black are ill.
Mrs J. A. Black is able to be out
after being ill.
Mary Jane, Johnny, Wyane and
Roxanne Stewart are imprvoing
after an illness.
Donald Snider was ill the first of
the week.

J. B. Vanderford will celebrate his
birthday December 30.
Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Sharpton, Sr., 1
are celebrating their 33rd wedding
aniversary today.
Harold Coker will be 9 years old
December 27.

served their wedding anniversary
December 21.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Vanderford
celebrated their 2nd wedding anni
versary December 21.
Janice Davenport will be 12 years

ARMED FORCES
Washington — President Eisen
hower sent special holiday greet
ings to members of the U. S. armed
forces and their families through-,
out the world.
“I know our whole nation shares |
my profound appreciation of your
contribution to the free world’s
dedicated quest for peace,” the
president’s message says.
The Defense Department said to
night that special greetings have
gone out also from Secretary Wil-
on, the secretaries of the Army,
Navy and Air Force, and the com
mandants of the Marine Corps and
the Coast Guard.
In another message, Eisenhower
salyted members of the U. S. Mer
chant Marine, telling them their
peaceful trade among free nations
bolsters the cause of peace and
1 freedom.
