Mr. and Mrs. Gene Craven and daughter, Dayle, were Tuesday visitors in Anderson. j Foundation Christmas Party Santa Claus will arrive in Joanna, at the club house on December 18 at 3 o’clock in the afternoon and will have a pack filled with Christ-, mas stockings for children under 12 years of age for ail Joanna em ployees. Immediately following the pro gram Santa will journey to Zion school to treat the Negro children. Woman's Club Meets Tonight i The Joanna Woman’s club will have its annual Christmas party to night at the club house. A brief business session will be held. Each member is asked to remember her Joanna Sister with a gift and do not disclose her identity. A pro gram of Christmas music will be 1 presented by the children of Joanna school under the direction of Misses Mary Elizabeth Fowler and Eleanor Blumberg. The executive board will serve as hostesses. Chicken Stew Be Given S The Eastern Star will sponsor a t chicken stew Friday afternoon at Joanna club house beginning at 5, o’clock. Containers will not be fur nished, officers have announced. At 7 o’clock on Friday evening the chapter will hold its regular meeting in the meeting room at Jo anna club. i W. S. C. S. To Meet * The Woman’s Society of Christian Service will hold its December meeting at the church December 8. The hostesses for the social hour are Mesdames Hubert Godfrey, Lester Longshore, and J. B. O'Dell. The ladies of the church are cor dially invited. Birthday Party Enjoyed On Friday evening Brenda O’Dell was surprised by a group of friends in honor of her 14th birthday at her home. The young folk enjoy-1 ed music, records, games and a round of entertainment. Mrs. Cecil O’Dell, the honoree’s mother, served a buffet plate con sisting of hamburgers, French frigs, pickles and a sweet course with [ iced drinks. The individual cakes were iced in green and topped with ; a birthday candle. Brenda receiv- ! ed many lovely gifts. Those attending were Misses Ann ! Niver, Betty Ann Lowman, Bfctty I Zane Longshore, Toni Stroud, Snooks Niver, Mike Cooley, Dusty 1 Reeves, Dale Bolick, Jimmy Farm- I er and D. L. Gunter. Birthday Party Given Miss Dixie Couch was entertain ed on Monday evening when her j mother honored her with a party at her home on PickenS street with 19 boys and girls present. The games . were led by Misses Betty Zane Longshore and Marlene Humphries. The party table was overlaid with a floral cloth and centered with the birthday cake which was frosted in white and decorated in pink and blue. Refreshments of cake, ice cream and soft drinks were served. The honoree received many gifts. Hospital News M. B. Bridges was a patient for treatment at Joanna hospital sev- { eral days last week. Jill League, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. League, underwent an appendectomy November 25 at the hospital. Birth ‘Announcement Lake Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Lake of 1 Columbia, announce the birth of a son, Curtis Leon, Jr., on Novem ber 27 at Joanna hospital. Mrs. Lake is the former Miss Juanita Adams of Joanna. Presbyterian Circle To Meet The Kelly-Glenn circle of the Presbyterian church will meet De cember 8 at 3 o'clock with Mrs. Floyd Pitts as hostess. Assistant hostesses will be Mrs. Lula Wier and Miss Bonnie Pitts. A Christ mas program will be given and the Bible study will be given by Mrs. James S. Gray. * 8 ^ Joanna Parent-Teacher Association Organised On Saturday evening, November 28, a group of interested persons met in the library of Joanna school to initiate a community Parent- Teacher association and a count of those joining totaled 64 who will become charter members of the new organization. The Rev. Perry Turner, Epworth Methodist pastor, led the invoca tion. In the absence of Mrs. George L. Johnson of Greenwood, distjict president, Mrs. Julian Bolick of Clinton, gave a talk on the aims and Results of such an organization from the standpoint of the home. Mrs. Bolick has been quite active in her own PTA, holding several of fices in the organization. G. N. Foy, school district assistant -superin tendent, made a few remarks cen tering around the school participa tion and pledged the interest of Dis trict No. 56 in the development of the Joanna PTA. Alex Crawford, program chair man, introduced the individuals serving on the program. A set of by-laws were placed in the hands of each family representative present. The following list of officers was nominated and unanimously elected to serve for the coming year: President—Alvin Bedenbaugh. Vice-President—Mr. Ray Bragg. Secretary—Miss Etta Adams. Treasurer—J. Norman Floyd. Historian—Mrs. Glenn Carr. All officers elected agreed to serve. The new officers will retain the temporary committees for the first year. Steering committees attend ing to the behind-the-scenes work, in preparation for the formation ofj the association were duly approved by the president. They are: Time and Place — Mrs. Alex| Crawford, chairman; Mrs. Carl Franzen and B. A. Lown. Publicity—Glenn Carr, chairman; Mrs. Lester Hair, Mrs. Wade Smith. By-Laws—Mrs. Wadsworth Ni ver, chairman; Mrs. S. A. League, Miss Mildred Workman and Miss Thelma Waller. Hospitality—Mrs. William Dob bins, chairman; Mrs. Leroy Couch] and Hack Prater. Program—Alex Crawford, chair man; Mrs D. M. Carr, Mrs. Claude Monts. Nominating Committee—Mrs. G. N. Foy, chairman; Lester Hair, Wadsworth Niver, Jr., William Dobbins and Mrs. Hack Prater. . The fourth Saturday night in each month at 7:30 o’clock was set for the monthly meeting date. How ever,' since the Christmas holiday will take in the 4th Saturday in De cember, it was decided to place the meeting date for December 19 and the place of meeting in the school library. Dr. L. B. All entries must be mailed to the Gin- ton Chamber of Commerce. 6. A prize of $25.00 will be awarded to the winner. 7. The contest will close Monday, Decem ber 21, 1953. The winners of the con test will be announced in The Chronicle Thursday, December 24. 8. The item displayed by the merchant must be foreign and unrelated to his stock.
