Voice of America
Seeks To Open
Cracks In Kremlin
St. Louis, Mo., ,Nbv. 14—The
chief of the new U. S. Information
Agency said tonight he is using the
Voice of America to broadcast facts
into Russia “in a sustained effort to
open up cracks in the Kremlin.”
Theodore C. Streibert cited mid
summer uprisings in East Germany
and the purge of Secret Police
Chief Beria as evidence that there
will always be subjects of great
importance which Soviet propa
ganda would distort and about
which the Voice can give “the true
facts” to the Russians.
In an address prepared for the
Sigma Delta Chi convention here,
Streibert described the broadcasts
as being tailored to the needs and
opportunities of each of the areas
into which they are beamed.
In Russia, he said, very few or
dinary people have opportunity to
hear American broadcasts.
