1954 Chevrolet trucks.
The exhibit and accompanying
business session were sponsored by
the Chevrolet Motor company for

this area and emphasized the im
portance Chevrolet is attaching to
its soon to be announced truck line.

"The meeting was somewhat
precedent in our experiene, be
cause it was devoted exclusively
to new truck models,” said Mr. Lan
ford. "The reason soon became
clear. The 1954 line contains so
many new features that even a re-

ing, and soon Nimroda will
be cruising the beautiful
autumn fields and woods in
search of this most popular of
all southern game birds.
Thi* beautiful bird has been
endowed by nature with several
aids in helping him survive. His
coloring enables him to hide
easily in the grass and leaves.
He is equipped with a quick
starter, and terrific speed that
saves his skin many times. Usu
ally from six to eighteen birds
make up a covey, and we are
told that they roost on the
ground, and in a tight circle
with their tails together. This
is good strategy, because with
eyes and ears in all directions
they are able to i educe the haz
ard of surprise attack by
predatory animals.
We do not need to organize
against predatory animals these
days, but there are no less haz
ards against which we must
prepare. Through August 1 of
this year, 402 of our people met
instant death and 3,877 others
were injured on South Carolina
highways. Capital Life offers
all kinds of protection against
such emergencies.

S. C. Growth
Rock Hill — Jeff B. Bates, state
treasurer of South Carolina, told
Winthrop college students about the
state’s heritage and its future in an
informal address Tuesday.
After the War Between the States
South Carolina was worth only 16
million dollars, Bates said. Now
there are at least a dozen individuals
in the state worth that amount, he
told the student assembly.
Bates illustrated the continued
growth of the state by citing the in
crease of tractors in South Carolina
from 4,800 just 12 years ago to more
than 30,000 now.
He noted the fact that South Caro
lina leads the nation in peach pro
duction and the manufacture of tex
tiles. The soundness of the state fi
nancially saves it millions of dollars
annually in reduced interest rates,
the treasurer reported.
