‘■X. Page Six Lieut. Edgar Sadler Presented Medal, Receives Citation The Bronze Star Medal was pre sented to 1st Lt. Edgar O. R. Sadler cl this city recently before the 9th Special Infantry Company, USMC- R, at he Naval Marine Corps Re serve Training Center, Greenville. Major William A. Seel, com manding officer 9th Special Infantry Company, USMCR. before presenting the medal to IstXt. Sad ie ,r read the following citation from the commanding general, 1st Ma- j;ne Division: "For meritorious achievement in connection with tperations against the enemy while serving with a Marine weapons company in Korea from 23 June 1952 to 22 February 1953. Serving is assistant mortar platoon lead er and later as platoon commander, Second Lieutenant Sadler displayed exceptional ability, intiative and professional skill in the perform- ; nee of his duties. During periods c f intensified enemy action, he dis regarded his own safety and re named on duty to direct effective Kre against the enemy targets. The long hours he spent training his i nit was evident in the effective and efficient manner by which they supported the battalion during the numerous enemy attacks. During a later engagement, he unhesitatingly t xposed himself to intense enemy mortar fire to insure the maximum effectiveness of his platoon while c:.reeling close fire support. Sec^ c r,d Lieutenant Sadler's determined efforts and selfless devotion to duty j served as an inspiration to all who observed him and his actions i throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United ) [ States service. 1st. Lt. Sadler in February cf 1945 joined the Marine Corps as a private and served with the 6th: Marine Division in China. Novem ber of 1946, he was discharged from! the Marine Corps and enrolled at i Presbyterian college from which he graduated in 1951 with a BA de-p gree. Upon graduation . he entered , the Marine Corps as a 2pd lieuten-1 ant and served in Korea ^’ith the i 1st Marine Division. Last‘July he ( was released from active duty and is now connected with the Laurens' Distributing Co., Laurens. County Has 9,206 Enrolled In Schools * ^ According to the report of Mrs. j M. F. Patterson, attendance teach-1 er. the county had an enrollment j of 9,206 pupils at the end of the second school month. The enrollment was divided,! white, 6,203; colored 3,003. White percentage attendance was given as 94 per cent; colored 77 per cent.
