W. S. C. S. Meets
The Woman’s Society of Christian
Sere ice of Epworth church met last,
t*day evening at the church with
large number present. The reports
I the month were given and the
various items of business were dis
cussed. Two new members were
added to the roll in October—Mrs.
E. C. Barbee and Mrs. Claude Brown.
The group vdted to send Miss Louise
Best a birthday gift. Miss Best is a
missionary to Brazil and supported
by the Greenwood District. Mrs.
J. W. Davis led the prayer of ad
journment from the business hour
to the program. The program was
presented by Mrs. Homer Jacks, as
sisted by Mrs. Luther Longhore, Mrs.
C. A. Guinn, Mrs. Buford Weir, and
Mrs. Hubert Godfrey.
Refreshments'of apple pie, whipped
cream and coffee were served. The
hostesses were Mrs. Vernon Garner,
Mrs. Pearl Williams and Mrs. Homer
Jacks.

Friends of Charlie Craig will re
gret to learn he is a patient at Hays
hospital in Clinton following surg
ery.
'Rev. E. C. White and Airs George
Frady continue i]] at Joanna Ale-
morial hospital.
On November 6, James Harrelson
was admitted to .the Joanna hospital
for treatment.
Wilbur Bolick of Kinards was a
patient at the local hospital several
days last week.
Mrs. Virginia Heuble underwent
surgery at the hospital on Novem
ber 9th.
Birth Announcement
Salters
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Salters an
nounce the birth o: a son, Don Rus
sell, at Joanna Memorial hospital
on November 6. Mrs. Salters will be
remembered by her many triends as
Miss Louise Russell. The Salters
have two daughters, Cathey and
Sammy.
Receives Promotion
Friends of Maxie Reeder, will be
interested to know he has been pro
moted to corpora! in the armed
forces. Cpl. Reeder is the son of Air.
and Mrs. Frank Reeder and is await
ing transport to Korea from the
Parks Airport Base in California.
Mission Study Tonight
The fall approved mission study,
“The Life and Task of the Church’’
is being presented by Mrs Lavinia
Cooley at Epworth church. The text
book is^That the World Alay Know.’’
The last session will be tonight. Fol
lowing the study a social hour will
be enjoyed with each member
bringing a covered dish.
Celebrates Birthday
On Sunday, Norman Floyd was
pleasantly surprised when he ar
rived from church to find a family
group present wishing him a happy
birthday. The midday meal was a
turkey dinner with all the trimmipgs.
Those enjoying the occasion were
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Davenport, Sr.,
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Wertz, the hon-
oree’s family and father, J. G. Floyd
of Truckers Inn. In the afternoon,
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pitts of Newberry
called.

The bride was lovely in a light 1
blue gaberdine fitted suit with win
ter white and black accessories. She
wore a white orchid shoulder cor

The young couple enjoyed a short
honeymoon to Asheville, N. C., and
at present are at home with the
bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Bragg, Sr., on Marion street.
Youth Fellowship
The Youth Fellowship hour of Ep
worth'‘chufch was held in the as
sembly room of the church Sunday
immediately following the evening
service. The group enjoyed a round
of games and entertainment. Re
freshments of coca-colas, potato
phips and cookies were served.
Engagement Announced
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pinkerton
announce the engagement of their
daughter, -Beth, to Charlie B.-Cole,
Jr., of the^United States Air Force.
The wedding will be November 24,
7:30 o'clock at the Methodist ^hurch
in Quimby, Iowa.

AND VEHICLE OWNERS
OF THE CITY
1 ,The City Council passed an ordinance November 2nd
requiring all residents of the city of Clinton to register
their automobiles or motor vehicles with the police de
partment by the first day of December, 1953, and to get
a decal with a number which will be put on the wind
shield of the car or vehicle, and to all new residents to
register their’s w’ithin 90 days after becoming resi
dents df the city. '
There is no charge for this registration and the po
lice department will appreciate the cooperation of tlie
public in this matter. ,

Fashion Show November 19
Plans are being made by the
Woman’s club to sponsor a Simplic
ity Fashion Show, ’Collectors Items",
a project of the Simplicity Pattern
company of New York. The show
will be at Joanna Club house, on
November 19 and there will be no
admission. A list of the participants
will be announced later. The public
is invited.

Adult School Planned
The school management has an
nounced plans are being made to
open an adult school in the near
tuture providing* a sufficient num
ber of adults can be enrolled. This
school will be open to anyone above
the age of 16 years and will be held
at Joanna school. Enrollment blanks
will be delivered to the homes in-the
community at an early date for those
who wish to enroll.
Mrs. Holsonback Honored
Mrs. Jack Holsonback celebrated
her 66th birthday on November 2.

Baptist Church Activities
The Mable Moorhead circle of the
Joanna Baptist church held its
monthly meeting on Tuesday eve
ning, November 3, in the young
people’s department. Mrs. Bertha
Stroud, circle chairman, presided
over the business session, and Mrs.
W. W. Hair, program chairman,
gave the devotion. Miss Ruth Hair
gave an interesting discussion on
the third chapter of the book, Pray
Ye Refreshments of fruit salad,

Mrs. Earl Arthur and Mrs. Lee
Thomas.
