Mr. and Mrs. Barron O’Shields and son, spent the week-end in Lit tle Mountain with the latter’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Uston Sons. Graduates From School Marshall Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs.. M. L. Smith, was a member of the graduating class of De Forests of Electronics in Chiiago, 111., on Sep tember 4th. He received his diploma as a radio’ and television technician and at present is employed with cereidivdps eimhola mfwy mh mhm Hurd’s Radio and TV Service. After two years service with the armed forces which he plans to en ter shortly, Marshall plans to com plete the work required for an en gineering degree. W. S. C. S. To Meet Tuesday After being postponed from Oc tober 6, the Woman’s Society of Christian Service of Epworth church will meet Tuesday evening at 7 o’clock, October 13 at the church. The program is entitled “The Rural Mission of the Church” and will be presented by Mrs. Rudolph Prater. The devotional thoughts will be, gi /en by Mrs. Luther Wright. A film, “Africa Is Waiting for Christ and His Church,” will be shown in con nection with the program. The host esses for the social hour will be Mesdames C. A. Gwinn, Luther Wright, Mildred Morgan and Ercie Brown. The ladies of the chujrch have a special invitation to attend. , Seniors Enjoy Picnic A^large group of Epworth Seniors and invited guests enjoyed a picnic at Curry’s Lake Saturday night. Bowling and other out-door games were enjoyed. Mrs. C. A. Gwinn ac companied the group. Church Groups Meet Youth Fellowship of the Joanna Baptist church met at- the home of Mrs. Millard Murphy on Sunday night, after the worship service. Quiet games were enjoyed by the 40 Intermediates and young people present.- Refreshments of sand wiches, cup cakes, and coca-colas were served. The Young Woman’s Auxiliary of the church will meet on Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 at the home of Miss Myrtle Murphy. Birth Announcements Thomas Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Thomas announce the birth of a daughter, Jill, September 29 at Joanna Me morial hospital. Mrs. Thomas will be remembered as Miss Barbara Chandler. Hyler Mr^jmd Mrs. Quence Hyler of Kinar^ls announce the birth of a daughter, Nannie Yvonee at Joanna Memorial ly>spital on October 1. She is the former Miss Bobby Jean Franklin. Campbell Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Campbell of Clinton announce the birth of a son, Henry Russell, on October 4 at Jo anna Memorial hospital. The mother is the former Miss Dorothy Peniand. Homecoming October II The fifth annual homecoming will be held at the Joanna Baptist church on Sunday, October 11. The services of the day begin with Sun day School at 9:55 A. M. and morn ing worship at 11:00 A. M. The message will be brought by Dr. James A. Howard, South Carolina State evangelist Music wi^ be un der the direction of Miss Mary E. Fowler with the choirs of the church. Lunch will be served on the church grounds at 12:45 P. M. A* concert will be given by the Clinton high school band, Harry Bouknight, director, on the lawn of the church at 2:00 P. M. The evening services will begin at 6:15 with the Church Training program and the evening worship at 7:30 o’clock. The message will be brought by Rev. James Mitchell, the pastor. Beckham will regret to learn her sister, Mrs. Emma Miller has been quite ill in the Columbia hospital. Mrs. Miller is recuperating at her home in Batcs- burg at present. — John Lever underwent an appen dectomy at Joanna Memorial hos pital on September 30. Friends of Mrs. Robert Willing ham Mil regret she is a patient at the local hospital. Little Ray Rowe was a patient for treatment several days last week at the local hospital. Brenda Farmer, daughter of Mr. and Airs. G. L. Farmer of Clinton, is recuperating at her home fol lowing treatment at Joanna hospital for several days. On October 4, Mrs. Dorothy Daniel of Cross Hill was admitted to Jo anna Memorial for treatment. Sorry to report Miss Jeanette Bragg is * ill at her home following a tonsilectomy at the local hospital on October 5. Friends of Charles Murphy will be sorry to learn he underwent surgery October 5 at Joanna Me morial hospital. Mrs. Margaret Russell is a pa tient at the local hospital following surgery on October 6. Rev. E. C. White, a former pas tor of Epworth Methodist church and the father of Mrs- Harmon Murrah, Jr., is seriously ill at Greenville General hospital. Hayne M. Willingham is also a patient at Greenville General hos pital.
