To Hold Annual
Seminar Here Today
The annual fall seminar of the
Greenwood District of the Woman's
Society of Christian Service and
the Wesleyan Service Guild of the
South Carolina Methodist Confer
ence will meet here today (Thurs
day) for a one-day session at Broad
Street Methodist church.
The program for the meeting has
been announced by Mrs. Dwight F.
Patterson of Laurens, secretary of
missionary education in the district.
The meeting will convene at 9:45 a.
m. t and will continue through early
afternoon with an intermission at
12:30 for lunch and sale of litera
ture. ,

Approximately 200 delegates are
expected from Newberry, Laurens,
Greenwood, Edgefield, Aiken, Mc
Cormick, Abbeville and Saluda coun
ties. Mrs. Patterson will preside.
Members of the two organizations
expected to attend include the presi
dents of the various societies, mem
bers of program committees, secre
taries of youth work, secretaries of
children’s work, secretaries of guilds
and study leaders.
• The Rev. E. K. Garrison, pastor
of the host church, wlli'conduct de-
votionals prior to the business pro
gram, and Mrs. W. C. Holroyd of
Greenwood, will extend the wel
come in behalf of the district.
Others appearing on the program
will be Mrs. Niles C. Clark of Wat-
erlo*; Mrs. Helen B. Bourne of
Greenwood; Mrs. Frank DuBose of
Edgefield; Mrs. Lavinia Cooley of
Joanna; Mrs. W. C. Lowe of Ninety-
Six; Mrs. Ryan Atkins of Green
wood; and Mrs. J. H. Shealy of
Cross Hill.

Teen-Age Canteen
Meets Friday Evening
The Teen-Age Canteen will meet
Friday evening, September 25, at
the American Legion Home from
eight until 10 o’clock for the month

Wildlife Barbecue
Tickets are now on sale for the
barbecue supper meeting, of the
Clinton group, Laurens county
chapter, South Carolina Wildlife
Federation, to be held October 5 at
Posey W. Copeland’s lake.
The ticket committee has asked
all members to purchase tickets on
or before October 1, so reservaions
can be made. No tickets will be
available after this datt.

Services will be held at 7:30 P. M.,
and Tuesday • through Friday at
10:00 A. M. The visiting minister
will be ' Rev. Marion Moorhead,
missionary to Japan. Rev. Moor
head is a graduate of North Green
ville Junior college, Furman univer
sity, and Southwestern Seminary.
He was a Navy* chaplain during
World War II. He and his family
recently returned to the United
States for their first furlough after
five years on the mission field in
Japan.
The pastor, Rfev. James B. Mitch
ell, invites the public to attend the
services throughout the week. Spe
cial music will be under the direc
tion of the church choirs. Various
organizations of the community
have been invited to be special
guests on designated evenings.
