Woman's Club To Install Officers
The annual dinner and installa-
tiin of officers for the new year for
the Woman’s club will be held
Tuesday evening, September 22. at
7:30 at the Community building.
Each member is asked to make a
special effort to be present.
Hobby Club Meets Tonight
The Hobby club will meet this
evening at 7:30. TTie members are
making rugs, painting figurines and
oil painting pictures. All who are
interested are invited.
To Have Mountain Picnic
The Intermediate department of
Calvary Baptist church will leave
the church Saturday morning at 9
o’clock for an all-day trip to the
mountains. Each member is asked
by the superintendent, Mrs. Grady
Smith, to be present and bring pic
nic lunches.
Honored With Party
On Friday evening Mrs. Bertha
Taylor was honored with a shower
of household and personal gifts at
the home of Miss Mary Cahnon.
Mrs. Taylor’s home was recently
destroyed by fire.

were Mrs. Robert Cannon and Mrs.
Ola Meadors.

On Friday evening, Sept. 4, Mrs.
Robert Adams, Mrs. Robert Wlflteel
and Mrs. Earl Braswell were host
esses to a large group of friends who

for a shower for Mrs. Bud Carr of
Aiken, formerly of this city. Sev-

All members of the choir and oth- j
ers interested are invited to attend.
The choir clinic consists of note
reading, key and time signatures
and conducting. The general themes
developed are
1. Basic principles of vocal pro
duction.
2. Suggestions- for developing the
basif vocal leckniques.
3. Methods in developing the mu
sical ear in listening and reading.
4. Phrasing and its meahing for
the director as well as for the choir.
5. Musical interpretation.
The choir clinic manual was writ
ten by Dr. Warren Angel and is
taught at Ridgecrest, N. C., during
music week at the Baptist assembly.
Adult School Opens
The opening meeting of the Adult
school for the community was held
Monday evening, Sept. 14, at Acade
my Street school auditorium. Mrs.
Joe E. Land, social director for the
Clinton Mills, presided.

group of interested citizens and con
gratulated them on their ambition
to continue their education. '
The Rev. J. W. Sfrillers gave the
devotional reading -and prayter. „. D.
S. Templeton, principal of the school
and Superintnedent W. R. Anderson,
assured the students of their inter
est and cooperation.

lenged the group to continue their
education with the idea that no one
is ever too old to learn and that
