Celebrates Birthday
On last Saturday afternoon little
Miss Cindy Prater was hostess to
about 18 young boys and girls at a
party at her home in Jqgnna
Heights. The occasion was Cindy’s j
third birthday. The children en
joyed outdoor games led by Miss
Marlene Humphries and played on
the large gym set a birthday gift
to Cindy from her, parents.
The party table was set up on the
lawn and covered with a blue linen
cloth, the decorated cake with
burning candles being used as the
centerpiece. Favors of fancy party
hats were given each child.
The honoree’s mother, assisted by
Mrs. Carson Nabors, served assort
ed sandwiches, lollipops, potato
chips, cookies and lemonade.
Cindy is the daughter qf Mr. and
Mrs. Guy Prater. Each guest re
membered her with a gift.

sented the theme of the year and
the goals. Each officer was given
a guide book to more thoroughly
understand her field of work. Plans,
for the year’s work were discuss-;
ed and action was taken on various i
items.
Preceding the business session a^
interesting devotion on Stewardship
was given and Mrs. P. W. Turner
led the evening prayer.

and drinks following the adjuom-'
ment prayer led by Mrs. John M. j

Baptist Church News
Frances Watson circle held its
regular monthly meeting in the
young peoples department of the
church on Monday, June 22. Mrs.
Ferrell Long, circle chairman, pre
sided over the business session.
Mrs. Freeman Evans, program
chairman, presented an interesting
pogram on Nigeria. Those partici
pating on the program were Mrs.
D. L. Bundrick, Mrs. Ferrell Long
and Mrs. J. B. Johnson. There were
seven members present. After the
social hour the circle presented
Mrs. Janet Gardner with a going-
away gift.
The Hilliard Mitchell circle of flic
church will meet on Thursday
i night, June 25, at 7 o’clock. Mrs.
I Alex Crawford, circle chairman,
urges all members to be present.

ter the worship hour, 28 young peo
ple gathered for Youth Fellowship
in the educational building of the
church. After the playing of games,
sandwiches, potato chips, cake and
iced tea were served. ,

A banquet honoring Joanna
school graduates, high school grad
uates, college students, Joanna
Study club graduates and those re
ceiving Sunday school worker’s di
plomas was held in the recreation
room of the church on June 20. Mrs.
R. L. Francis was master of cere
monies for the evening.
Tommie Boyce, Clemson college
student pronounced the invocation.
A welcome was given by Horace
Hamm, Sr., superintendent of the
Sunday school, and the response
was given by Buddy Kirby, gradu
ate of Clinton high school. Miss
Dorothy Carr, sophomore of Win-
throp college, rendered dinner mus
ic. Group singing was directed by
Miss Mary E. Fowler, church music
director, with Miss Joann Tomp
kins, sophomore of North Green
ville college, as accompanist. Miss
Ethel Mae Rowe, graduate of Jo
anna schools, and Jimmie Riser
sang “Wanting You,” by Romberg.
Mrs. Leroy Couch, high school
graduate of Joanna Study club,
gave the club class history. Miss
Doris Phillips, who will enter Gard
ner-Webb junior college, spoke on
“My Church Going to College.”
Mrs. Ben Jester, graduate of Sunday
school workers, spoke on "My
Church Training.” Dr. Perry Q.
Langston, Clemson college gradu
ate, former service man, and DRE
graduate of Southwestern Baptist
Theological seminary, gave the
main address, using as his subject,
“Continuing To Train.” Jimmie
Stewart, Methodist ministerial stu
dent at Wofford college, pronounced
the benediction.
The dining hall was decorated
with summer flowers, robed dolls
icpresenting various schools, and
red streamers.
The banquet was prepared by
Mrs. Frank Phillips’ committee.
About 110 people attended the
banquet which was a part of the
commencement program.
Chitwood-Shadix Rites
Miss Dorothy Nell Chitwood and
John Lamar Shadix were married
Thursday, June 18, at 12:30 at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Shadix,
brother and sister-in-law of the
groom, 1704 Madiona St., NW, At
lanta, Ga.
They were joined in marriage
with a double ring ceremony per
formed by the Rev. Charles An
drews, of the Grove Park Christian
church.
Mrs. Shadix is a graduate of El-
berton high school, Elberton, Ga.,
and has been connected the past

Administrator of the estate of Bar
