The Giles Chevrolet Company,
Inc., is celebrating their 25th anni
versary this week and receiving
congratulations of many friends and
customers.
The firm is headed by Charles C.
Giles, President, Thurston R. Giles,
vice-president, and Mrs. Charles C.j
Giles, secretary-treasurer.
Mr. Giles came to Clinton on
June 15, 1928, to enter business and,
became a new resident. At that
time Connerly and Alexander of
Laurens, held a sub-agency here.
Mr. Giles secured a direct agency
with the General Motors company
and since then has been distributor
for the well known Chevrolet cars
and trucks. Several times to better j
serve the public their “home” on,
West Main street has been enlarged j
and modernized and today offers a
1 complete sales and repair depart
ment for the motoring public.
Mr. Giles was bom in Cleveland,
Ga., and at the age of 10 moved

Foe a number of years he lived in i
Odessa, Fla., where he was superin- j
tendent of the Lyon Pine Lumber
company, a large industry of that j
state. Upon moving here 25 years |
ago to accept the Chevrolet agency,;
he purchased and developed the
property on West Main street where
he has successfully conducted the
agency.
Mr. Giles soon became a loyal
Clinton-adopted -son- and through
the years has given his support to
all fffol-ts for community" better
ment. He and his son, Thurston,
are members and stewards of Broad
Street Methodist church. He is a
member and past president of the
Kiwanis club, and past president of
the Chamber of Commerce. He is
a member of the board of directors
of the Clinton Community Hotjjl
corporation and in addition to hia
automobile business has farming
and other interests in the commun-1
ity. He is affiliated with the state:
automobile association and South j
Carolina Aviation Association, andj
past president of the latter associa
tion. He operated Giles Flying Ser
vice from 1939 until early in 1947
when he sold the business to Ship-
man Flying Service.

Only bona fide farmers who derive
the major portion of their income
from farming wull be eligible to re
ceive cash prizes or awards. A farm
er may enter the contest in both

or (2) pasture management, but he
will be eligible to win a prize in only
one class.
A definition for a nfew permanent
pasture may be either winter or sum
mer, and must have been established
on or after February 1st of the pre
ceding year. A minimum of three
acres in one continuous body is. re
quired. Pasture management is de-
j fined as measuring the management
:of a permanent pasture consisting of
| three acres or more in a continuous
field enclosed by a fence or a natural
boundary.
Each county in the .district will
i nominate two farmers for competi-
; tion for district prize—one farmer in
! each class. The selection to be made

The judging of the pastures will:

Get Ready For County Fair
Farmers and other exhibitors who
are planning on having Exhibits at
fairs .this fall should be working on j
their exhibits. The harvesting of
grain, the cutting of hays, etc., are
good times to select exhibits. As sea
son of various farm crops comes on,
the exhibits should be selected and
stored for the fair.
The Laurens County Fair Premium
book is now being printed, judges
have been selected for livestock,
poultry and rabbits. Dairy judge is

4-H Club Camp
The Laurens County 4-H dub
£>oys and girls will camp the week
of June 29th at Camp Long, Aiken
county. Arrangements are now be
ing made and club members are re
quested to notify the county agents
office their intention of attending
camp by mailing the card mailed
them a few days ago.
The club members will be trans
ported on school buses under the
supervision of local leaders, county
agents and home demonstration
agents. It is estimated that approx
imately 120 club members will make
