W.S.C.S. To Meet
With Laurens Group
For Mission Study
The Woman’s Society of Christian
Service of Broad Street Methodist
church will meet in Laurens Mon
day, April 20, at 3:30 p.m. with the
Laurens Methodist,: church for the
first of a series of mission studies on
Africa, to be taught by Mrs. Niles
Clark.
The next three meetings will also
be held in Laurens: Wednesday, the
22nd, at 7:30; Monday, the 27> ft 3:30
p.m.,; and Wednesday, the 29th. at
7:30.
' All who can attend, and desiring
transportation, are asked to get in
touch with Mrs. V. S. Harwell or
one of the circle chairmen. •.

Holds Meeting
Mrs. J. K. Brown, chairman, was
hostess to the Ella Riddell circle of
Thornwell Memorial church at the
Edith home on Tuesday morning.
Mrs. Brown opened* the meeting
with prayer. Mrs. F. M. Stutts

| en by Mrs. A. S. Maxwell. Miss
Lucy Clawson, program chairman,

Has April Meeting
Mrs. Ethel Pitts and Miss Jean
ette Pitts were hostesses to the Sara
Glenn circle on Monday evening
for the regular monthly meeting.
Prior to the program a social
hour was enjoyed and a salad
course, iced cake squares and punch

Folowing the Presbytery meeting
Friday afternoon, Mfs. W. P. Ja
cobs of this city, was honored at
the home of Mrs. O. C. Liner in
Greenwood. Mrs. Liner invited
members of the executive board to
her home for an informal social
hour, cookies and punch. At this
time Mrs. Jacobs, retiring president

Episcopal Mission
Host For Meeting
All Saints Episcopal Mission
will be host to the Western Con
vocation at its spring meeting Sun
day, April 19.
The Rev. John Pinckney, Green-
vile, is to preside over the meet
ing which will begin at 4 p. m.,
with registration followed by the
general session. *Group meetings
| are tto take place before supper
| and the meeting will close with
evening prayer service at 8 o’clock.

who spoke here Monday evening,
Mrs. Raymond Pitts entertained at
her home with a six o’clock dinner.
The living room was attractive
with spring flowers, and particularly
effective were antique ^gompotes
filled with larkspur, coral bells and
sweetpeas on tables on either side of
the . mantel, Rlsen^ere red roses
were used.
A three-course dinner was served
Roses in shades of pink, yellow and
red in a silver bowl formed the cen
terpiece for the dining table, which
wast overlaid with a white linen
cloth. Miss Agnes Davis assisted the
hostess in the courtesies of entertain
ing.

phen D. Lee Chapter. United
Daughters of the Confederacy, was
held at the home of Mrs. Jasper
Rowland, with Mrs. Estelle Ab

Mrs. W. R. Anderson assisting as
hostesses.
Miss Ada Ann Furr, accompan
ied af the piano by Mrs. Rowland,
sang a solo, “Beautiful Dreamer.”

ing account of her recent trip to
Bermuda. Reports on the Pied
mont district conference were giv
en by several members who at
tended.
During a business session plans
were discussed for conducting a
flag sale on Saturday, May 9, for
Memorial Day. The local chapter
is raising money to help erect a
headquarters building in Rich
mond, Va. The following nomina-
