County Agent's Office

Large Crowd Attends 4-H Calf
Show
A large crowd attended the annual
4-H Beef Cattle Show held at the
Laurens County Fair Grounds last
Friday afternoon.
Herchel Gibbs, Laurens, Rt. 3,
Trinity Ridge Community, won first
place in showmanship and George
Wasson, Laurens, Rt. 3, Hickory
Tavern community* placed second
There were 14 beef calves shown
and were judged by L. L. Norton,
Manager of the Creekland Farms,
Clintbn7 using' the Danish system.
Those placing in the‘blue ribbon
group were: George Wasson, Her-
chell Gibbs, Jo Annn Gibbs ad Cain
Thomason, Laurens, Rt. 3. Placing
in the red ribbon group were:
Gene' Marlar, Fountain Inn, Rt. 1;
Wallace Burnnett, Jerry Martin; Dan
Sullivan and June Brissie, Ware
Shoals, Rt. 1.
In the white ribbon group were:
Joe Hill, Cross Hill; James Ritchie,
Fountain Inn, Rt. 2; Sammy Briisie,
Grady Strickland, Ware Shoals/Rt.
1, and Benny Marlar, Fountain Inn,
Rt. 1.
These calves will be shown and
sold at the Piedmont Fat Cattle Show
and Sale, Greenville, April 8th and
possibly some at Spartanburg and
Columbia sales.

Greenwood last year.
Club Boys In Tractor Contest

2, placed second and Milton Burns,
Mountville, placed third. '
These boys took a Training
Course, prior to the driving course,
in tractor maintenance under the su-
pervisionn of M. B. Henderson, Ow-;
ings, volunteer local leader and J.,
Scott Boozer, Asst. County Agent, j
There were five training periods |
held, one each at the machinery i
dealers place of business, who gave 1
valuable assistance by furnishing
technical instruction on the various
working parts of the tractor. The
dealers are to be congratulated on
the fine cooperation with the rural
youth’s program in machinery.
Freeze Damage Peaches
The big frost and freeze on the
Laurens County peach crop. It will
