Drivers In S. C.
Allowed To Have
Only On License
Columbia March 11. — Drivers in
South Carolina are allowed to have
only one license, and the state high
way department cannot issue both a
paper' license and the metal tag to
the same driver. This was pointed
out yesterday by Chief Conamission-
er Claude R. McMillan of the high
way department.
A number of applications for li
cense renewals by mail have re
quested both the paper and the metal
permits. The department points out
that obviously one of the main rea
sons for restricting an individual to
! one license is to prevent him from
| loaning his license to another person
unable to get one.
The highway department again
urges applicants by mail to send in
a check or money order 'rather than
cash. Price of the paper license is 50
cents and the metal tag is 60 cents.
A driver holding a valid paper li
cense may at any time secure a metal
tag by paying 60 cents additional,
•v
but the paper license will be voided.
However, *in the case of a' person
whose license is suspended, only the
paper lic.ense will be issued when
the suspension is up. Th’.s is because
the endorsement of the suspension
must be entered on the back of the
license, and there is no provision for
entering this on the metal tag.
