Bridges of Startex, visited Mr. and Mrs. Theo dore Jackson Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Reed and son of Spartanburg, were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Lindy Barlow dur ing the week-end. Mrs. Connie Davis, Charlie Birchmore and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nelson were called .to Columbia on Tuesday due to the serious illness of their mother, Mrs. Lula Birch- more, who is a patient in the Bap tist hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Gfango Ghumley and children and Mrs. Clara Smitn visited Mr. and Mrs. George Banks in Woodruff Sunday. Mrs. Mary Alice Bryant and Mrs. Annie Mae Lambert of Columbia, were recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nelson. Mrs. L. A. Hall of Spartanburg, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Ithiel Harvey and Mr. Harvey. Miss Betty Lou Burnette of Co lumbia, spent the week-end witn Misses Ernestine Parrish and Bar bara McLendon. Mrs. Lydia Nelson, Mrs. Kate Nelson and Miss Pauline Nelson of Laurens, were Monday guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Mundy. Mrs. Clyde Trammell, Russell, Ruth and Ken Trammell visited Mrs. John Heath and Mrs. Royce Smith in Ware Shoals during the week-end. Mrs. Fred Bodie was the week end guest of her nephew and niece, - Mr. and Mrs. P. Y. Culbertson, in Marietta, Ga. Mrs. Odis Greer spent several days last week in Shannon, Ga., with relatives. The Greers are moving to Shannon, their former home, today. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McLendon and Cecilia and Mr. and Mrs. B. . F. Harvey visited relatives in Cam den Sunday. Week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. David Roberts were Mr and Mrs T. J. McKibbeh and Mr. and Mrs. K. A. Torr and children of Lan caster. On Sunday Mrs. J. E. Fin ley and Mrs. C. R. Roberts of Lau rens; and -Mrs: AUce--Finley of Atr lanta, Ga., visited the Roberts fam ily. Mrs. Guy Emory, Sr., and Miss Betty Emory of Enoree, visited their son and brother, Floyd Em ory, and Mrs. Emory during the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Neal and Jimmy, accompanied t by Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Neal of Laurens, visited Mr. and Mrs. E. I. Neal in Green wood Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Alan Inglett and son, Charles, visited relatives in Charlotte, N. C., Sunday. David Word and Mr. and Mrs. John Word of Clinton, visited the latters mother, Mrs. Ellen Reed, in Greenville Sunday. Mrs. Reed has been very ill at her home there. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Bray of Green ville, and Mrs. M. C. Bannister of Pelzer, visited Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Harbin Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Windsor were called <o Petersburg, Va., the past week due to the death of the lat ter’s brother, Pearce Abercrombie. Friends sympothize with them in their sorrow. Mrs. Mattie Harvey visited her sister-in-law Mrs. Ella Harvey, Sunday in the Columbia hospital where she is a patient. Mrs. Janie Miller and grand daughter, Mary Jean Stewart, were week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Junior Jenkins in Aiken. Misses Barbara Sharpton and Margaret Mitchell attended the South Carolina Beta club conven tion in Columbia the past week end. Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Griffin and family of Princeton, and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Staggs of Laurens, were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Greg ory Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Satterfield and family motored to Lake Mur ray Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Crocker vis ited their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Crockdl 1 , in Slater during the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Crawford and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Craft visited Leroy Craft at Camp Gordon, Ga., Sunday. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cor ley Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Butler and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Culbertson of Greenwood. Mr. and Mrs. Bennon Small of Ware Shoals, visited Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bagwell Sunday. Pvt. Carl Dean of Camp LeJeunc, N. C., is spending a twenty-day leave with Mrs. Dean and his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Dean be fore reporting at San Diego, Cal., for re-assignment. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Meeks and family spent Sunday in Cross Anchor with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Holmes. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Kirby and family of Ware Shoals, visited Mr. and Mrs. Grover Kirby during the week-end. Mrs. Blanche Stewart and John ny spent the week-end In Laurens with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Burnett. Lee Thornburg have returned home after visiting the former’s daugh ter and son, Mrs. Elbert Boswell in Rome, Ga. and Sidney Lee Thorn burg at the Univeristy of Ken tucky, Lexington. . Missionary Society To Meet The WMS of Lydia Baptist church will meet Thursday (to night) at 7:30 at the home of Mrs. Fred Bodie, 332 Poplar street. All ladies of the church are invited to attend. Young People's Meeting The Laurens Associational Young j People’s meeting will be held at the! Lydia Baptist church Friday eve- i ning, March 13, at 7:30. The pastor, Rev. Garrett-McElhannon Wedding Miss Elizabeth Garreftt and Guy McElhannon were married Satur day, Feb. 28, by the’ Rev. L. B. Robinson, pastor of the Presbyte rian church in Laurens. The cere mony was performed at the par sonage. The bride wore for her wedding a grey suit with blue accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Bud McElhannon of- Monroe, Ga., were the only attend ants. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Garrett of ,the Sandy Springs community. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claud McElhannon of Lydia. The couple will make their home with the grooms parents on Cy press street for the present. Men's Club To Meet The Lydia Men’s club will meet Saturday night, March 14, at Provi dence school. Enlist In WAC's Misses Patricia Cauble and Eve lyn White have enlisted in the WAC, women’s division of the army and are now stationed at Fort Lee, Va. Miss Cauble is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cauble and Miss White is a sister of Lloyd White and Jack White of Lydia. With The Sick Mrs. Grover Jackson is ill at her home. Donald Snider has been ill sev eral days. Mrs. Edward Elders is a patient at the Blalock clinic. Mrs. Ike Jones is ill. Mrs. Tommy Ellison has returned to work after being ill the past week. Mrs. Carson Neal is ill at her home. Birthdays and Anniversaries Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Overstreet celebrated their 22nd wedding an- anniversary March 9. March 10th birthdays include: Flo Emory, who was six years old, Mrs. Nina Howell and Mrs. Letha Rhodes. Mack Gaffney was 11 years old. Thomas Meeks will be 10 years old March 17. Tom Horton has a birthday to day. William Thrift will celebrate his birthday March 18. Lindy Barlow will celebrate a birthday March 15. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Haupfear will observe their first wedding anni versary March 15. Mrs. Word Honored The members of the WSGS of the Lydia Methodist church were hostesses Tuesday night at a party honoring Mrs. C. B. Word, wife of the pastor of the Methodist church. The Community center was dec orated with arrangements of spring flowers in a yellow and green theme. Inviting the guests in were Mrs. Clyde Smith, Mrs. Claud Sims, Mrs. E. W. Mitchell, Mrs. J. C. Meeks and Mrs. Roy Meeks. Mrs. Horace Smith and Mrs. J. C. Pearson led the group in playing several games and contests. Mrs. Word was presented a number of gifts and a sweet course was served by Mrs. David Roberts and Mrs. Hoke Huey. Birthday Party Given Mrs. Lldyd White honored her daughter, Gayle, last week with a birthday party. The group enjoy ed bingo and other games, after which party refreshments were served.
