Home Mission Meets
On Tuesday night, Feb. 17, the
Home Mission of the Pentecostal
Holiness church met at the home
of Mrs. Virgil Webb.
Mrs. Webb had charge of the
program and spoke on “Laborers
in the Master’s Vineyard.”
Special features of the evening
were an address by Mrs. Leon Bo
lick of Kinards, district president,
and Mrs. Jack Summers of Joanna,
district secretary.
After a short busines session the
hostess served refreshments.
Housohold Shower Given
Mrs. Edgar Ballew, a recent
bride, was honored Friday eve
ning at the home of Mrs. Eunice
Braswell with a household shower.

State Worker Speaks
The Baptist Training Union Ex
ecutive Committee of the Laurens
association met Friday evening at
Calvary Baptist church.
Rev. R. A. McKinney, training
union director, was absent and J.
Karl Johnson, k assistant director,
was in charge.
A chicken dinner was served,
after which Mr. Johnson intro
duced the speaker of the evening,
John B. Lane of Columbia, State
Training Union worker.
Sharlar Walters, asssitant direc
tor, also from Columbia, was pres
ent.
Reports For Duty
2nd Lieut. Joe E. Land will re
port for duty with the Army at
Fort Bliss, Texas, on March 1. Lt.
Land is the son of Mrs. Joe E. Land.

Homecoming Day Big Success
‘ The Church of God on Elizabeth
street had its homecoming Sunday.
Rev. W. C. Manley of Enoree,
brought the morning message at
the 11 o’clock hour. About 200
members and friends enjoyed din
ner prepared bv the ladies of the
church. Special music and sing
ing were by groups from Laurens,
Woodruff, Newberry and local
groups.
Afternoon services were well at
tended, with nine visiting minis
ters from out of town. A Bible
was awarded to John Foster who
brought in the largest offering.
The balance of the indebtedness on
the Church which was built two
years ago at a cost of $18,000, was
wiped out, the pastor. Rev. J.' B.
Cole, announced.
Society To Elect Officers
The Woman’s Missionary Society
of Bailey Memorial church will
have its March meeting Monday
evening at 7:30 at the home of Mrs.
Ralph Lawson. All members are
asked to attend with the election
of officers for the new year to be
held. Anyone needing transpor
tation may contact Miss Marie
Weir or Mrs. W. R. Terry.

Woman’s Club Holds Meeting
The Clinton Woman’s club held
its February meeting at the Com
munity house February 19. Mrs.
Helena Pitts gave the devotional,
the theme being, “No True Holiness
Without Humility.”
F. P. Thompson, assistant super
intendent of School District No. 55
was the guest speaker for the eve
ning. He gave a very informative
and interesting talk on the film he
showed of the schools of Laurens
county.
A short business session followed
the program, presided over by
the-president, Mrs. Clinton West.
During the social hour Mrs. Joe
Land, with Miss Mary Cunningham
at the piano, entertained the mem
bers of the club with a solo, “Little
White Rose,” by Rebe. Loraine Pat
terson and Joan Burgess, music pu-j
pils of Mrs. Land, sang the lively
selection, “Reuben and Rachel.”!
They were dressed to portray the
characters. Bennie Huey played
“Minuet in G.”
Hostesses for the evening were: 1
Mrs. Mollie Donnan, Mrs. Julian
Coleman, Miss Rose Lee, and Mrs.
A. B. Blakely.
Refreshments of cherry pie and
ice cream, coffee and satlted nuts
were served.
Mrs. Ella S. McCluria Pastas
Mrs. Ella Shepard McClurie, 80,
died Friday at the home of her son,
O. R. Sheppard, in the Sandy
Springs community following sev
eral years of declining health.
She was a native of Macon coun
ty, N. C., but had made her home
in Clinton since 1928. She was a
member of the Wesleyan Methodist
church. She was twice married.
Her first marriage was to H. B
Shepard. From this union two
sons survive, Wiliam J., Clinton,
and O. R. of the Sandy Springs
community.
Her second marriage was to the
late M. H. McClurie.
Funeral services wer conducted
Saturday afternoon at the Fire
Baptized Holiness church on Beau
regard street by the Rev. Burton
McClain and the Rev. Fred Rowe.
Burial followed in Calvary ceme
tery.
Club Groups To Moot
O-Ke-Ya-Pi group will met at
4 o’clock Wednesday afternoon
with Mrs. Mike Sholar to celebrate
George Washington’s birthday.,
Each girl is responsible for a part
of the program.
Ot-Ya-Kwa group will meet at 4;
o’clock Thursday with Mrs. Sholar.
