Mr. Sloan is the son of Mrs. E.
Blakely Sloan, and the late Mr.

kine college and was graduated

matics. Following three years’ ser
vice in the Army Air Corps during
World War II, he continued his
|j studies in the field of mathematics
% receiving the M.A. degree from
j-* Duke University. He did additional
if: post-graduate work for three years
at the University of North Carolina
before returning to FTesbyterian
college as associate professor of
mathematics. For the past 18
months he has been in the actuarial
department of the Pilot Life Insur
ance Company, Greensboro, N. C.
Mr. Sloan’s wife is the former
Helen Mapp of Beuna Vista, Va.,
and they, with their two small
daughters, will make their home in
Columbia.
Clinton High Sets
10-Game Grid Agenda
Coach Charles (Choc) Burnette ,has
announced the jCliriton high Red
Devils’ football schedule for 1953
consisting of. 10 games. The only
change is last year’s slate is that
Fairforest, has been replaced by
Union.
The team will lost 14 lettermen
from last year 1 because of graduation.
Next year’s version of the Red Dev
ils will have three returning first
stringers: Jack Simmons, end; Silas
Campbell, quarterback; and Bobby
Pearson, halfback.
Besides tnese three there will be
seven returning lettermen: Roy Ben
jamin, end; Robert Finley and Jim
my Dutton, tackles; Tony Rowe and
Bob Franks, guards; Russell Tram

Last Rites Today
For Joseph G. Lynch
——
Joseph G. Lynch, 76, died at his
home near the city Tuesday after
several months of declining health.
He was a native of this county,
where he spent his entire life. He
was a son of the late Thomas P.
and Elizabeth Garrett Lynch.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Nora D. Lynch; one sister, Mrs.
C. T. Murphy; two brothers, Lloyd
and C. I., all of Laurens.
Funeral services will be con
ducted this morning (Thursday) at
11a. m., at the Gray Funeral Home
by the Rev. Grange F. Cothran and
the Rev. James A. Grisby. Burial
