Good Floors Need
Good Treatment
nc.v home owners are-
prouder >f their hard wood floors
-ban anything else in the house.
However, after a few weeks of
: racking in the usual new subdi
vision mud and the extra traffic
of getting settled, the floors are
sometimes a sorry sight.
But the housewife with know
how can keep that beautiful brand
new look for her prized hardwood.
Occasional waxing and daily dust-
ng are her secrets.
The wax should have a hard.
iry surface that is easy to keep
clean; the-ftlm of wax protects the
finish and keeps the dirt on the
surface where it can be wiped off
easily. If floors are cleaned regu
larly and well waxed, dirt and dust
van be removed by going over them
with an untreated dust mop or
soft cloth. This takes just a few
minutes and prevents dirt from
being ground into the wax.
WTien floors need cleaning it
is important to avoid soap and
water scrubbing. Water will in
jure b^th the finish and the wood
and sometimes even cause the
floors to buckle. If water is’spill
ed on the floor it should be wiped
up imediately. When allowed to
remain on a finished floor, it leaves
an unsightly^white spot which is
almost impossible to remove with
out refinishing.
