Returns From Germany
Cpl. George E. Roper has return
ed home after over a year's service
with the army in Germany.
Cpl. Roper has a 34-day leave
which he is spending with Mrs.
Roper and children, after which
he will report to Camp Chaffee,
Ark. Mrs. Roper and children will
accompany him.
Entertains For Son
On Thursday Mrs. Floyd Emory
invited several friends of her son,
Smoky, for a surprise birthday get-
together. Miss Jeannene Em
ory served the little boys ice cream, |
cake and drinks.
Smoky was celebrating his 8th
birthday.
Frost-Dean
Mr. and Mrs. James B. Frost an
nounce the marriage of their
daughter. Helen, to Pvt. Carl Dean
on Tuesday, January 6.
The ceremony was performed by
Rev. Fred Rowe in Joanna.
Pvt. Dean is the son of Mr. and (
Mrs. Leroy Dean and is stationed at
Camp LeJeune, N. C., where Mrs.
Dean plans to join him soon.
Sunday Services Announced
There will be morning and eve
ning services at the Prfesbyterian
church Sunday. At the evening
service Dr. D. J. Woods will con
duct a baptismal service. The |

Farewell Party Given
The Young People’s Training
Union class of the Second Baptist |
church in Laurens gave a farewell
party for Earl Brown the past week'
at the home of Miss Mary Ellen
Bodie. Earl is leaving for Califor
nia with the navy.
Games and contests were enjoy
ed after which refreshments were
served by the hostess.
Scout Court of Honor Held
The Laurens County Boy Scout
Cooirt of Honor was held Monday
evening at the Lydia Baptist
church. The welcome was given
by J. B. Abercrombie, scoutmaster
of the host group. Dr. W. R
Turner gave the invocation.
The pledge to the flag and the|
tenderfoot investitures were led by
the Joanna troop. Those promoted
Troop 74; Dickie Townsend, Troop
to second class wer£ Lee Wilson,
78; and Ronald Corley, Richard
Martin, Bobby Fuller and Cecil
Davenport of Lydia Troop 90.
Three boys from Troop 78 were
promoted to first class.
Troop 90 won the attendance
award for January. Badges and
awards were presented by Dr.
Turner, D. F. Putnam and Smoky
Eggers. ->j
J. H. Hunter .gave a short talk.
This was his first meeting as Ad
vancement chairman. A moving
picture was shown on program
planning.
