Mrs. Adair Hostess
Lutheran Women
Monday evening, January 5, Mrs.
Rhett Adair was hostess to the
Woman’s Missionary Society of St.
John’s Lutheran church.
Mrs. W. T. Kanning, assisted by
several other members, presented
the program on “British Guiana.”
A social hour was held following
the program and the hostess served
a sweet course.
Business Meeting
Episcopal Group
The Woman’s Auxiliary of All
Saints Episcopal Mission held a
business meeting on Monday af
ternoon at the church.
Plans were made to attend the
Diocesan convention in Columbia
January 27 and 28. Mrs. A. B.
Stump gave the treasurer’s report
for 1952 which included receipts
from a rummage sale and sale of
Christmas cards. Plans were dis
cussed for the World Day of Prayer
to be held in February.
Ella Riddell Circle
January Meeting
The Ella Riddell circle of Thorn-
well Memorial church met Monday
morning at the Lesh Infirmary
with Mrs. A. S. Maxwell as hostess.
Mrs. J. K. Brown called the
meeting to order with prayer,
which was followed by the roll
call and minutes.
Miss Lucy Clawson led the Bible
study on “World Missions,’ and
was assisted by Mrs. M. R. Hough.
Mrs. W. I. Henderson discussed the
Survey article, “Why I Chose Af
rica As A Field of Service,” and
Mrs. Maxwell led the Bible study
on Colossians.
The meeting was closed with
sentence prayers.

Circle No. 1 of the Woman’s Mis
sionary Society of the Associate
Reformed Presbyterian church met
on January 5 at the church with
Mrs. R. F. Blakely and Miss Mar-'
garet Blakely as hostesses.

and Spiritual Life,” was led by
Mrs. R. L. Plaxico with several
members contributing articles from
the “Journal of Missions.”
Later a social hour was enjoyed

Tuesday evening, Jan. 20, at 7:30.

served by the hostesses, Mrs. Ed
win Cunningham and Mrs. W. R.

circle No. 2 in the evening at the
church. Mrs. C. Bynum Betts, pro
gram leader, gave the Bible study
from Colossians. Also taking part
on the program were Mrs. James
P. Sloan, Mrs. Lowry M. Wilson
and Mrs. Todfl.
Bride-Elect Honored

Miss Mfldred Dunlap was hon
ored Tuesday morning with a cof
fee given by her aunt, Mrs. Law
rence Davis, at her home near here.

County Auditor
To Take Returns
Miss Jennie V. Qulbertson, county
auditor, in the city Tuesday, said she
will soon begin her rounds to ac
cept the filing of tax returns for the
year 1953. Her itinerary will son be
announced, she added. '

ence Sikes. Plans were discussed
by the group to assist Father Ernst
in furnishing and moving into the
nearly completed rectory. It was
decided to aid in raising funds for
this program to purchase a tele
vision set with the drawing to be
held ■ February 14 at Joanna club
house.

Altar Guild Meets
With Mrs. Roddey
Members of the ladies Altar
Guild at St. Boniface Catholic
church, Joanna, met at the home
of Mrs. Philip Roddey recently.
The meeting was called to order
by the president, Mrs. Steve Soltis,
and led in prayer by Father E.
Gerald Ernst.
The first topic of discussion was
the importance of as many mem
bers as possible attending the
Deanery meeting in Spartanburg
on January 19. The ladies were
then thanked by Father Ernst iprl

Christmas time. A date was s»t
for a spaghetti dinner to be held
February 14th at the Joanna , club
house. The dhildibn’s catechism
classes were changed to meet on

masses. An abundance of clothing
was received by Mrs. Roddey from
the members to be sent to under
privileged children in the Far East.
After the meeting refreshments
were served by the hostess.
