The Christmas cantata, “The Na

Institute will decide here Thursday
what further action it will take
concerning the raise in textUe
wage mdnimums under the Walsh-
Healey Act.
The Institute’s executive com
mittee will meet here to discuss
th question. Presiding over the
meeting will be W. L. Sibley of
Union S. C., president of the ACMI.
Secretary of Labor Maurice J•
Tobin has indicated that he intends
to raise the wage minimum for
! work done under* government tex-
Crawford,, ^jj e contract from the current 67
Blumberg,
cents to $1 an hour. His decision
was announced after hearings in
Washington during September in
Which both management and labor
took part. Tobin set Dec. 26 as the
final day to which exioeptions to
the order could be filed.
The ACMI has taken the position
that the Walsh-Healey Act requires
wage determination to be made on
a "locality” basis, but that Tobin
has set the figure for the entire
country. In addition the ACMI said
that the Act exempts goods sold
in the open market and spokesmen
for the group have called on Tobin
to adhere to the “letter of the
law” in determining wage policy.
