SMITH, Correspondent and Representative Mrs. Ruby Cordor of Whitmire, visited Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ballard Sunday. Mrs. Ida Prince and daughter, Nettie, and Johnny Lanford spent the week-end in Marietta, Ga., with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Prince. ' Mrs. Clara Smith is visiting near Clinton this week with Mr. and M rs. Floyd Gann. Mr. and Mrs. Grange Chumley arxj children were Sunday visitors near Clinton with Mr. and Mrs. Harper Matthews. Jesse Harvey spent last week w^th his sister, Mrs. J. W. Turner, and Mr. Turner in Greenwood. Mr. and Mrs. Claud Willard had as their guests during the week Mrs. Edith Cothran of Honea Path, Mrs. J. B. Hawkins and son of Greenwood, Mrs. Floyd Willard of Cross Hill, Mrs. Fred Patterson and children of near Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. David Word were business visitors in- Spartanburg last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Templeton at tended a birthday dinner in Whit- jmre Monday in honor of their aunt, Mrs. C. H. Cooper, who was celebrating her 81st birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Bagwell and Mrs. Annie Sherbert of Enoree, visited Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Neal Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. C. H Pearson ofi Woodruff, were guests Sunday of 1 Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Pearson. James Smith, Carol and Nancy, erf Spartanburg, visited Mr. and Mrs. Horace Smith Saturday. ♦ Christmas Vespers The Providence school chorus presented an annual vesper service Sunday afternoon at 5 o’clock. Singing and marching of the Shepherds and Wise Men and anti- pihonal reading composed by Miss Mary Johnson, teacher of the 4th grade of the school, were given. The chorus is composed of pu pils of the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades with the program presented by the teachers of these grades. Miss Mary Johnson was director, and Mraa^Clvde .Smith, pianist. Birthdays and Anniversaries Billy Harvey celebrated his 2nd birthday Dec. 1. Patricia Harvey has a birthday Dec. 21. 1st PO Bim Willard, stationed in Alameda, California, observed a birthday December 1. ♦ Baptist Christmas Programs The Lydia Baptist church will present their Christmas program. “Ye Shall Find a Babe,” Sunday evening at 7:30 at the church. The public is cordially invited to attend. On next Wednesday evening the church will have its annual Christ mas tree at 7:30. Presbyterian Church Services The boys and girls and other members of Lydia Presbyterian church will present to the public a Christmas program Sunday eve ning at 7:30 at the church under the direction of Mrs. Eugene John son. The annual- Christmas tree event will be Monday night at the church in the fellowship hall. Games and contests will be enjoyed with the ladies of the church serving re freshments. Sunday morning Glenn Robin-, son will preach 11 o’clock hour with Gordon Bradford filling the pulpit at 7:30. Wiih The Sick Mrs. Eloise Cannon has returned to work after a few weeks illness. O. D Greer is ill at his home on Oak street. Christmas Party Tonight The Lydia Woman’s club will give their annual Christmas party Thursday night at 7:30 at Provi dence school. The dining room of the school is gaily decorated for the season. Each member is urged to attend. Party For Little Ralph Nabors Mrs. Ralph Nabors entertained the children of the Kindergarten with a party Tuesday honoring the fifth birthday of her small son, Ralph, Jr. A birthday cake holding five lighted candles centered the gift table. After playing several games refreshments of cake,< potato chips and fruit juice were served the twenty-nine children present. * Party For Little Sue Word Mrs. David Word was hostess to a number of children in the Kin dergarten rooms Friday morning. The party celebrated the 6th birth day of her daughter, Sue. The group played games and en joyed singing several songs be fore the birthday song was sung to little Sue. After the gifts were opened refreshments were served 'Diirty of Sue’s little friends were present and special guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Templeton.
