Miss Annette Ballew celebrated her birthday October 3. Cornelia Hooper will celebrate her 8th birthday October 13. , With The Sick Miss Cissy Moore underwent a tonsileetomy at the Blalock clinic Friday. Mrs. Louise Baker is convalesc ing at the home of her sister. Miss Nellie Osborne, after undergoing surgery at the Blalock clinic. Mrs. Mollie Painter is ill at her home. Birthday Dinner Enjoyed On Sunday the membership of the Church of God on Elizabeth street complimented Rev. J. B. Cole with a dinner in honor of his 50th birthday. Dinner was served picnic style on the church grounds and Rev. Cole was remembered with many useful gifts. Missionary Meeting The Woman’s Missionary Society of Bailey Memorial church held its regular meeting Monday evening at the home of Mrs. David Word. The devotional reading from Ephesians 5:14-20, was read by Mrs. Word, followed by a season of prayer in observance of the Week of Prayer. Miss Marie Weir then sang a special number. The Bible study, John 18-21, was brought by Mrs. W. R. Terry, fin ishing the book of John. Miss Weir then gave an interesting mission studv from the book, “Japan’s New Day.” After the reading of the minutes and roll call, a business meeting took place. The hostess then serv- Called To New Safety Law Effective January 1 South Carolina’s Safety Responsi bility Law, which becomes effective Jan. 1, will be administered by the State Highway Department. Its operation will be directly super vised by the Motor Vehicle Division of the department in which is con centrated driver and vehicle regis tration records, both vital tb the administration of the new law. The act provides that' when any person is involved in an accident causing death, injury or property danmage in excess or $50 to others, he must within 60 days, post security tvith the State Highway Department m an amount estimated to cover damages to the other person or the other person’s property. The question of who is at fault does not enter into the matter at this stage—and in the case of a collision between two vehicles", the owners and operators of each vehicle must post the security for damage to the other ed refreshments, buffet style.
